Bruno Lage set to seal £23m midfielder transfer after Wolves bowed out as interesting payment plan now shared

Wolves fans want to see more new faces after Fer Lopez and Jhon Arias – and now the club have been boldly linked with a big name player from Chelsea.

Arias will sign for Wolves with Fluminense confirming the transfer in recent days after he played his final game for the club against Cruzeiro earlier this week.

But Wolves could follow the Colombian up with more attackers, with Matheus Cunha and Pablo Sarabia having both left.

And potentially, Hwang Hee-chan could also leave Wolves, as could Goncalo Guedes.

Wolves are hopefully going to step up their pursuit of Marc Pubill now that AC Milan have cooled their interest.

But one man who will not be heading to Molineux is Richard Rios, who is making a move elsewhere.

Wolves were linked with Richard Rios earlier this summer and the link excited many fans.

Rios has been shining for Palmeiras in Brazil for a while now, and a number of clubs have been keeping tabs on him.

Wolves were one such team, but earlier this week fans received a frustrating update.

And that was that Wolves had balked at Rios’ asking price. Wolves were said to ‘appreciate’ the player, but did not want to pursue a deal.

Earlier today, it was reported by Fabrizio Romano that Rios is now all set to complete a move to Benfica where he will link up with former Wolves manager Bruno Lage.

And interestingly, Lage’s club will pay the transfer fee in three instalments.

He said: “Richard Rios to Benfica, here we go! Deal agreed right now with Palmeiras after green light on player side.

“Benfica director Rui Pedro Braz closed the agreement with mission in Brazil, price tag met and paid in 3 installments. Rios will fly to Lisbon next week for medical.”

Wolves may regret missing out on Rios

Rios’ move to Benfica is likely not going to go down too well with some Wolves fans.

We know that Vitor Pereira is looking to bring a new, quality midfielder to Wolves this summer, and the talented Rios – who can play multiple different roles – would have been a very exciting addition.

But he’s off to Benfica – and the payment plan that has been agreed is interesting.

They are paying just over £23 million, which is being paid in three instalments.

We are always being told about how Wolves don’t have huge amounts to spend, but surely a payment plan like this would have made things easier for Wanderers.

He now has the potential to flourish at Benfica, and he may well go the same way as Enzo Fernandez, who was famously a Wolves target before heading to Portugal instead.
