Wolves are set for an intriguing January – and it looks like Fer Lopez could well be first out of the door.
Wolves head into 2026 with just three points on the board in the Premier League, and relegation is looking likely.
As such, Wanderers will need to prepare their squad for the second half of the campaign – and it will be a tough month.
There was real hype when Fer Lopez first signed for Wolves
Wolves do want to improve the squad. But the club also have to be realistic about the long term. Players suitable for the Championship will therefore also be targeted.
And there will be several outgoings at Molineux.
Celta Vigo have been interested in Lopez, and now there has been a development.
Advanced talks as Fer Lopez closes in on Celta Vigo return

It has not turned out to be the spell at Wolves Lopez was hoping for when he signed.
There were high hopes for the Spaniard, especially after he had a productive pre-season. But sadly he just hasn’t been able to convince.
There have been glimpses. But neither Vitor Pereira nor Rob Edwards have really taken to him.
And now he looks like he’ll be on the move.
According to Matteo Moretto, via Estadio Deportivo, there are advanced talks for Lopez to rejoin Celta Vigo next month.
And interestingly, he says that Lopez could actually join Celta on an 18-month deal, meaning he’d spend the whole of next season at the club.
What do we make of this, Wolves fans?
It's been claimed Fer Lopez is closing in on a loan move back to Celta Vigo – and he could stay for 18 months 🤔
Previously, Lopez heading back to Celta had been deemed complicated, with the club needing to make space in their squad. There were also suggestions the Spanish club would struggle with Lopez’s wages.
But significant progress has been made in the last hours.
Lopez to Celta Vigo now seems highly likely
This is an interesting development, with Moretto fairly reliable when it comes to Spanish transfer news.
It looks as though Lopez is now on course to return to Celta, and this is sure to frustrate a lot of Wolves fans who have been wanting to see more of him.
Lopez has really struggled for game time and many have suggested he should have been given more chances, given others have not stepped up.
But it seems Edwards doesn’t view Lopez as someone to count on.
Hopefully if this move does come to fruition, he will play as many games as possible.
