Atletico Madrid’s new transfer ‘priority’ could benefit Wolves just days after Marc Pubill hijack

Wolves suffered a huge blow in the transfer market when Atletico Madrid hijacked Marc Pubill’s move to Molineux.

Wolves were so close to signing Pubill from Almeria to bolster Vitor Pereira’s options at right-back.

Right at the final hurdle, Atletico Madrid snatched Pubill from Pereira’s grasp as Wolves’ hunt for a Nelson Semedo replacement drags on.

It’s fair to say that the Spanish club aren’t in Wolves’ good books right now, but Diego Simeone’s side might be able to turn their relationship with the Old Gold around.

Atletico Madrid are working to offload Samuel Lino

Pubill wanted to stay in Spain, so when Atletico came in for him, Wolves were left stranded.

The Spaniards saw a market opportunity and now, Atletico could offer Wolves their own chance at signing a top player this summer.

Wolves have shown an interest in Samuel Lino, Simeone’s left-winger, who looks to be on his way out of Madrid before the 2025/26 season commences.

After a tough week in the transfer window, there could finally be some light at the end of the tunnel for Wolves in the form of Lino.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Atletico are ‘working’ to find a new home for Lino, which is now the club’s priority.

Wolves were mentioned in Marca’s report, as were Nottingham Forest and Napoli.

It’s understood that Atletico want a minimum fee of £17m for the Brazilian, who has two years left on his contract.

Being a left-sided player capable of playing left-wing-back, Lino could be Wolves’ replacement for Rayan Ait-Nouri if things go to plan.

Lino could be the quality addition Wolves are craving

Wolves have already signed Fer Lopez and are close to announcing the signing of Jhon Arias, but more is needed to sufficiently replace those Pereira has lost.

Lino offers a dazzling presence in the left-sided role, with his attacking qualities something that Pereira could make use of.

The Brazilian contributed to 12 goals over the 2024/25 season for Atletico as well as maintaining his defensive duties.

Could Wolves sign an unwanted Brazilian from Atletico again? The Old Gold will certainly hope so if Matheus Cunha’s transfer is anything to go by.
