As well as Matheus Cunha, another ‘super talent’ could leave Wolves as European giants circle

It’s a common trend every transfer window but Wolves are at risk of losing some of their best players despite struggling in the Premier League.

While Wolves have announced the signing of Emmanuel Agbadou from Reims, the most important piece of business they could do this month is hand Matheus Cunha a new contract.

Some huge European sides, including Arsenal, want to sign Cunha but Vitor Pereira is desperate to sign his forward down to fresh terms.

Reports emerged on Tuesday that Cunha had verbally agreed a new Wolves contract. Whilst no official announcement has been made, hearing that was a step in the right direction.

However, the 10-goal striker isn’t the only high-profile player being linked with a move out of Molineux as Joao Gomes is attracting attention.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Man United want Wolves star Joao Gomes

According to The Sun, Wolves will need to fight off interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United to keep Gomes this month.

Gomes was previously wanted by Manchester United when Erik ten Hag was in charge, and it appears they could go back in for the Brazilian under Ruben Amorim.

Gomes, who was once hailed a ‘super talent’ by Gary O’Neil, has been one of the Old Gold’s stand-out players this term alongside Cunha, only missing one Premier League game through suspension – the 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town.

An incredible source of energy and tenacity in midfield, the 23-year-old Brazil international is arguably one of the division’s best tacklers, regularly topping the metric.

He’s also great at driving the ball forward with his lung-bursting runs and has even started chipping in with goals, as seen against Crystal Palace and Fulham.

It’s such qualities that show why he’s wanted by the big clubs, with his ball-winning ability becoming the most important part of his game.

Gomes ranks in the top 1% of tacklers across Europe

The chances of Wolves selling the former Flamengo star this month are incredibly slim, although they should brace themselves for a raft of interest in the summer.

That is because Rayan Ait-Nouri and Gomes placed among the top 10 players across Europe for ground duels won in 2024/25, displaying his qualities as a ball-winning machine.

To further reinforce this statistic, he also ranks in the top 1% of midfielders across Europe for tackles won, as highlighted by FBref.

Most of that is down to him playing in a side that has struggled however, most teams in world football would take Gomes as their South American destroyer and he’s another who looks destined to leave Molineux someday.
