Wolves were heavily linked with a move for Viktor Gyokeres in the summer and the striker is now being targeted for a big-money Premier League move – in a situation that mirrors the Enzo Fernandez one last year.
For weeks, Wanderers were mentioned as a potential next destination for Gyokeres, who had enjoyed a fabulous season in the Championship with Coventry City.
It was claimed that Wolves were actually in pole position at one point.
But in the end, the star completed a move to Portuguese giants Sporting CP – and so far, he has been brilliant for them.
Gyokeres has already hit 15 goals this term in just 18 games, and also contributed seven assists.
His form has reportedly caught the eye of Chelsea, who could now swoop for the Sweden international…
Chelsea eyeing former Wolves transfer target Viktor Gyokeres

The Evening Standard have reported that Chelsea are now considering making a move for Gyokeres in January.
He is one of four strikers they’re looking at right now – the others being Roony Bardghji, Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen.
Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson in the summer from Villarreal but there have been doubts over his quality so far.
Apparently, Gyokeres is on their radar, but a move would not come cheap. The player is reported to have a huge £87 million release clause, with TEAMtalk reporting Sporting would not sell for anything less than clause.
Since they only just signed him, that stance is more than fair.
Another Enzo Fernandez situation for Wolves
So here we have a situation that is very similar to what happened with Enzo Fernandez a year ago.
Wolves were very keen on the midfielder, but ultimately didn’t push hard enough and ended up missing out as he joined Benfica.
Fernandez absolutely thrived there and also had a solid World Cup. Just months after joining Benfica when Wolves had walked away, he moved to Chelsea who paid just under £107 million for him – a British record fee at the time.
Gyokeres has only just joined Sporting for around £20 million all-in after Wolves really wanted him. The star did actually hint there had been interest from Wolves in his first interview with Sporting.
It is a major shame Wolves were unable to sign Gyokeres, because he really does look like a top player, with former Molineux star Dave Edwards saying he had ‘similar dynamism to Raul Jimenez’ and that he was ‘aggressive and powerful’.
Hopefully, he does not prove to be too much of a regret for the club.
