Andre Wolves admission on Twitch played down as Pedro Neto comparison made

Journalist Liam Keen has commented on Andre, who appeared to express his desire to stay at Wolves for many years earlier this week.

The Brazilian has been widely expected to depart this summer, especially if Wolves do drop into the Championship.

But Andre made some somewhat surprising remarks in a Twitch stream earlier this week.

Andre said (via Twitch) that he ‘loves it at Wolves’ and would spend ‘three, four, five more years’ at the club.

This obviously led some to wonder if the South American would actually stay put this summer against all odds.

But Liam Keen has suggested an exit is still on the cards.

Keen said (via E&S podcast): “I wouldn’t read a lot into it to be honest. This is no criticism of Andre by the way because I think everyone expects that he’ll be leaving the club. I think he would expect he’ll leave the club. His agent will expect he’ll leave

“But Adam Armstrong – as a side note – said in my interview with him that he’s been there with Southampton before when they’ve been relegated, and players that expect to leave haven’t been able to get moves.

“So as much as we expect a lot of these players to go – Joao Gomes, Andre and others to leave – it’s still got to be right for everyone. The right money, the right club, right for Wolves, for the player, for the agent, for everyone, for it to actually happen.

“Stranger things have happened than someone like Andre staying in the Championship, even though I still think it’s very unlikely. I wouldn’t read a lot into it.

“Someone rightly said that (Pedro) Neto had said very similar about loving Wolves and wanting to be there for a long time, and about a week later he left for Chelsea.

“We’ve been there with Neto, and with Cunha signing his new contract… everyone knew he was leaving the club and obviously he was talking about sticking around at this club and loving it. There’s lot of players you could talk about.”

Andre staying at Wolves would be remarkable

It was no surprise to see some getting excited by what Andre said the other day.

Obviously, he is one of Wolves’ best players and ideally he would be sticking around for many years.

But it’s just not realistic if Wolves are going to be relegated. A player of his quality is surely not going to been sticking around to play second tier football.

He may really like life at the club. And he may well wish to stay for a few more years.

But his wording was perhaps telling. He ‘would’ stay, doesn’t necessarily mean that he will, and therefore an exit still feels fairly inevitable.

Especially when there’s already been reports linking Andre to the likes of Juventus.

Maybe he is less likely to leave than someone like Joao Gomes, for instance.

But it would still be a major, major surprise if Wolves were in the Championship next season and Andre was starting the club’s first game.
