Anderlecht have no intention to let Fabio Silva return to Wolves

Belgian outfit Anderlecht reportedly have no intention to let Fabio Silva head back to Wolves in January.

It was reported yesterday that there was potential for Wolves to try and get their young striker back from his loan spell in the winter window.

The club had sent Silva on loan to Anderlecht in the summer, with the intention of him being there for the whole 2022/23 season.

It was seen as a good opportunity for the former FC Porto youngster to get some much needed game time.

And that’s exactly what he’s got so far, in what has been a productive spell.

The Athletic reported that Wolves could move to try and bring Silva back in January, amid the fitness struggles of Raul Jimenez and Sasa Kalajdzic’s long-term injury.

Diego Costa is also 34 years of age and probably doesn’t have the capacity to be a regular.

But according to La Derniere Heure, they have no intention of letting him return to Molineux.

They are within their rights to take that stance, because Wolves did not negotiate a recall clause.

The only way for him to return would be if Wolves paid Anderlecht a fee to cancel the rest of the loan.

It is unclear how much money it would take to get him back.

In another article from La Derniere Heure, it is stated that the other four strikers at Anderlecht ‘have their flaws’. The suggestion is that Silva has become irreplaceable.

It is little wonder Anderlecht want to keep Silva for the whole season, as was originally agreed.

He’s doing well there, and is their top goalscorer.

And Wolves surely don’t want to be disrupting his momentum. This is a crucial season for Silva after his first two seasons of struggle at Molineux.

To put an end to his loan spell partway through could be detrimental to his development, especially if he doesn’t play that much on his return to Wolves.

Julen Lopetegui might really want him back, so it remains to be seen what will happen.

But on the face of it, Silva staying in Belgium and Wolves dipping into the transfer market seems the best option.
