Alan Pardew ‘can see’ Wolves making move for £125k-a-week PL player

Former Premier League manager Alan Pardew reckons there is a chance Wolves could make a move for Danny Ings in the January transfer window.

Gary O’Neil is looking to bring in a new centre-forward this month, after allowing Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva to leave on loan.

After last night’s 3-2 over Brentford in the FA Cup, the Molineux head coach stated that he was ‘confident’ that a new striker would come in, but obviously didn’t offer any names.

Ings is a player who has been linked with Wolves this month, having struggled for minutes at West Ham United.

It was claimed recently that injury problems at West Ham may make it difficult for Wolves to strike a deal for him this month, but Alan Pardew can see a move happening…

Pardew appeared on TalkSPORT’s January Transfer Window Show on YouTube to cast his eye over the latest rumours involving Premier League clubs.

Towards the end of the video, there is some talk about Ings and the potential for him to leave West Ham this month.

Wolves’ interest is brought up, and Pardew believes it could have legs. After journalist Alex Crook said that Ings wants to leave the Irons, he said: “I can see that, because he has that energy. He’s going to bring some sort of energy to your team.

“Is he going to get the goals? I think he’s only got a couple of goals at West Ham so that’s the question mark there.”

Since joining the Hammers in January 2023, Ings has only scored three goals in 41 appearances.

His most fruitful spell came when he was at Southampton, making 100 appearances for the Saints and scoring 46 goals.

Ings would be a risk for Wolves

It will be really interesting to see if Wolves do push for Ings later in the window.

His name has been there now for a couple of weeks and Wanderers surely are interested given their desire to sign a striker for fairly cheap or on loan.

Ings would not break the bank in terms of a transfer fee, you would think. But an issue could be his wages – it’s thought Ings earns around £125,000 per week at the London Stadium, which would make him Wolves’ highest-paid player.

As Pardew suggests though, it’s one that could definitely happen. If he’s the man Gary O’Neil wants, then the manager deserves to be backed with his judgment.
