After Max Kilman’s exit, Wolves now expect to sell another ‘big-hitter’ before deadline day

Wolves have had a fast start to the summer transfer window however, another key player could now follow Max Kilman before deadline day.

Gary O’Neil and Matt Hobbs have started preparation for the 2024/25 campaign early this summer, with arrivals and departures happening at Molineux.

Wolves had a trialling time in the 2023 transfer window, as key players were offloaded to generate profit amid financial concerns.

Now that the Midlands club are in a better place financially, O’Neil is eyeing reinforcements to replenish his squad although, further exits are now expected.

Wolves still expect to lose Pedro Neto this summer after Max Kilman transfer to West Ham

After Max Kilman’s departure to join Julen Lopetegui at West Ham, Wolves could now lose another key player ahead of next term.

In a piece detailing O’Neil’s rebuild at Wolves, The Athletic detailed that the club still expect to lose Pedro Neto this summer.

Journalist Steve Madeley claimed that the Old Gold are ‘still working on’ the understanding that Neto will leave Molineux ahead of 2024/25.

That being said, the report points out that Neto ‘will be the second and final big-hitter’ to leave the club this summer, expected to follow Kilman out of the door.

The Portugal international will only leave Wolves if the ‘right fee’ is received, with Neto said to be valued at £60m by his club.

If Wolves received an appropriate offer for the winger, The Athletic added that O’Neil could re-enter the market to search for another forward to replace the 24-year-old.

Interest in Neto has been reported over the months, with there now a window for clubs to explore a move for the Wolves star.

Gary O’Neil could be preparing for life without Neto

When considering Wolves’ top performers over the 2023/24 campaign, Neto would be one of the first names on the list from an outsider’s point of view.

However, due to injury concerns, the winger fell short of being one of O’Neil’s most crucial players, as he accumulated only 20 Premier League appearances last term.

Added to that, Neto only scored two goals, which despite his searing form when on the pitch, makes him a less difficult player for the manager to eventually replace.

In fact, the boss is already well-equipped to cope without the 24-year-old, who has only racked up 51 apperances in the top flight over the past three seasons due to his dire injury record.

Given that Neto is currently one of the most valuable assets in O’Neil’s squad, the Old Gold could benefit greatly from acquiring a fee as high as £60m for his talents, given how the squad coped without him last season.

The winger’s future should become clearer on his return to Molineux after Portugal’s Euro 2024 journey came to an end, with plenty of interest there to capitalise on.
