After Emmanuel Agbadou, Wolves want to sign ‘very strong’ player who can rival Toti Gomes

Wolves announced their first signing of the January transfer window on Thursday, paving the way for further additions this month.

Emmanuel Agbadou was confirmed as a Wolves player, sealing a £15m transfer from Ligue 1 side Reims.

Signing a 4.5-year contract at Molineux, Agbadou becomes the first signing of the Vitor Pereira era, and he couldn’t be more delighted.

Pereira listed nine reasons why Agbadou will suit the Premier League, with his sheer size and power being one aspect along with his ball-playing ability.

Now a deal for the 27-year-old is wrapped up, the Wolves manager can shift his focus to other signings, potentially landing a bargain from an English club.

Renato Veiga confirmed as a transfer target for Wolves

It was reported by the Daily Mail on Tuesday that Wolves were interested in Renato Veiga, the versatile talent currently on the books of Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca, who spoke highly of Veiga, captured the 21-year-old for £12m from FC Basel last summer and he’s since starred in the Europa Conference but not featured much in the top-flight.

This has opened up the door for a club to offer him regular football, with reliable Wolves journalist Liam Keen confirming the Portuguese international is someone they are interested in, as reported in his E&S column.

Indeed, it appears Pereira wants to waste no time getting his business done as he aims to drag the Old Gold away from the threat of relegation.

Veiga, who has been described as ‘very strong’ by Portugal manager Roberto Martinez, could be the perfect signing for Wolves.

How Veiga compares against Toti Gomes

Veiga’s arrival at Molineux could have Toti Gomes worried as he would likely rival the Wolves star for a place in the starting XI.

The Chelsea talent has displayed versatility at Stamford Bridge, playing as a centre-back, left-back and in central midfield despite only signing in July.

However, his best role is arguably as a left centre-back, and that is the position Toti has played under Pereira.

Toti is currently out injured and should miss the trip to Bristol City on Saturday but the signing of Veiga could put his place in the team at risk, especially when comparing the two players statistically across the past year.

Pereira likes his defenders to be comfortable on the ball and the above table demonstrates Veiga outclassing Toti in almost every department.

This just further explains why Wolves are looking to sign the Portuguese youngster who would be a clear upgrade in defence.
