It has now emerged that Wolves tried to sign Carlos Vinicius on loan from Fulham as the deadline reached its climax.
Wolves were left frustrating on and off the field last night as they were beaten 4-3 by Manchester United in the 97th minute and their attempts to sign a striker late on were thwarted.
Wanderers only managed to bring in Noha Lemina on loan from PSG but they weren’t the only side who carried out little business in the window.
Across all Premier League clubs, only £96.2m was spent this winter, around £700m less than a year ago as Profit and Sustainability struck a dagger through transfer budgets.
As many feared overspending could result in a points deduction – like Everton – clubs remained cautious with their spending as title-chasers Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal didn’t spend a single penny.
In the case of Wolves, their financial limitations meant they were targeting players on loan as opposed to splashing the cash on players and their main area of focus was striker.
Chelsea’s Armando Broja was their main target towards the latter end of the window but were priced out of a move by Fulham while it has now been revealed they tried to sign striker Carlos Vinicius.
Wolves considered Fulham striker Carlos Vinicius as an option
According to Sky Sports reporter Johnny Phillips, Wolves considered Vinicius as an option but didn’t get that far down the line and were perhaps too engrossed in their attempts to sign Broja instead.
He wrote on X:
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has featured 13 times for Fulham in the Premier League this term, predominantly off the bench, and has only scored twice.
A verbal agreement has now been put in place for the Brazilian to join Galatasaray on loan till the end of the season, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Wolves didn’t need Vinicius
The drama of deadline day and the desperation to sign a striker saw them go for someone who doesn’t boast the most prolific record in England’s top flight.
In 50 appearances, he’s only notched up eight goals across spells at Spurs and Fulham, which suggests he’s a player that Wolves should be avoiding.
Of course, when panic sets in and there aren’t many options available on deadline day, it’s understandable that the Wanderers considered Vinicius as a potential option, but thankfully, nothing progressed further.
The 28-year-old is a huge downgrade on forwards Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan while most supporters would prefer to see youngster Nathan Fraser get used as a back-up instead of him.
