A sixth Premier League club joins Matheus Cunha hunt – their interest could spark a transfer merry-go-round

Matheus Cunha could be at the centre of a multi-club bidding war. Wolves don’t want to lose him and will be counting down the days until the January transfer window closes.

The Brazilian striker is the Old Gold’s best player. Although the side sits precariously close to the relegation zone, their position, without Cunha’s contributions, doesn’t bear thinking about.

Despite Cunha being close to extending his contract recently, there is now huge uncertainty over his Molineux future.

Matheus Cunha wanted by six Premier League clubs

Cunha’s recent behaviour has added to speculation his time in the Midlands could be coming to an end.

The South American has appeared visibly frustrated by his side’s lack of results. Vitor Pereira has criticised Cunha’s body language following outbursts against Chelsea.

Consequently, opening the door for a transfer, clubs, including Arsenal, are beginning to circle around Wolves’ number 10.

The Gunners’ interest is well reported. Mikel Arteta is desperate to sign a new forward as he looks to reignite a title charge.

Chelsea and Spurs are also keen, as are Manchester United, and many were taken aback when it was reported recently that Nottingham Forest have also registered an interest in Cunha.

And now, according to GiveMeSport, Newcastle United are also in the picture. The Magpies’ financial problems make them less likely to sign Cunha but a late move for one of their players could trigger a transfer merry-go-round.

Cunha to Newcastle could hinge on Alexander Isak to Arsenal

Arsenal’s need for a guaranteed 20-goal-a-season forward is obvious. They’ve needed one for a while but Gabriel Jesus’ season-ending ACL injury has highlighted it even more.

The Gunners love Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and, if Arteta had it his way, would’ve signed him a long time ago. The Geordies won’t sell for anything less than an astronomical fee though — more than what it would take to get Cunha out of Wolves.

If Arsenal’s desperate pursuit for a new hitman leads them to make Newcastle a too-good-to-turn-down offer for Isak, Wolves fans would be wise to brace themselves for an incoming bid that would likely see Cunha move to the North East.

While fans of both sides will argue over which forward is better suited to their club — Isak or Cunha — all will agree that the pair of two of the Premier League’s brightest attacking talents.

Still with plenty of time left before the window closes, there remains the potential for a series of transfers involving multiple clubs to take place — an exciting prospect for the mid-season window.
