£60k-a-week Wolves player now ‘one step away’ from leaving Molineux permanently, agreement in place

Wolves are set to offload a few more players before the end of the transfer window – and one is now on the verge of a permanent exit from Molineux.

There have been three exits so far this summer regarding players who were in the first-team last season.

Max Kilman joined West Ham United earlier in the window. And in recent days, Pedro Neto moved to Chelsea, and Hugo Bueno joined Feyenoord on loan.

Wanderers are expected to ship a few more out in the next few weeks.

It has been reported Genoa have now submitted a proposal to sign Fabio Silva. Luke Cundle has also been the subject of a bid from Stoke City.

And then there is Daniel Podence, a player who spent last season on loan at Olympiacos and starred for the Greek giants.

He is now set to seal his return to the club.

Podence came back to Wolves this summer and was a part of the pre-season training camp in Marbella.

That was somewhat unexpected. But Podence impressed during that trip with his quality in training session and his fitness.

He also came in for huge credit for standing up for Hwang Hee-chan when the forward overheard a racist remark in the game against Como 1907.

There has been talk of him sticking around, and Gary O’Neil said that he would have Podence back if the player was keen to play for Wolves.

But that now looks to be unlikely, with Greek outlet Thrylos 24 reporting that the player is now ‘one step away’ from sealing a move back to Olympiacos – and this time it will be permanent.

Podence is said to have informed Wolves of his decision.

The publication claims that the deal is expected to be worth approximately €6.5 million (£5.5 million) to €7 million (£6 million).

A shame to see Podence go

It looks as though Podence will finally be completing a move back to Olympiacos and leaving Wolves permanently.

It is something of a shame to see him go, even though he did not play at Wolves last season. Because it was starting to look at one point like Podence could be an option for O’Neil in 2024/25.

But seemingly, his heart has always yearned for Olympiacos and that is understandable as he had a tremendous season in 2023/24 and was key in helping them to win the Europa Conference League. He also had a previous stint at the club.

Podence had the potential to frustrate in a Wolves shirt. But he was also one of the most naturally gifted players the club have had in recent memory, and made some important contributions after he first signed in January 2020.
