£3m player Gary O’Neil loaned out could now return to Wolves in January

Wolves could potentially move to bring one player back to the club in January from his loan spell.

Wolves sent a number of players out on loan during the last transfer window, and there have been varying degrees of success.

Fabio Silva has perhaps done the best, scoring five goals so far at Las Palmas.

Hugo Bueno has also caught the eye at Feyenoord over in the Netherlands.

But one man who’s not really had the loan stint he’d have hoped for is Chiquinho, who left Wolves on transfer deadline day.

Chiquinho left to join Mallorca in La Liga, with Wolves moving to bring in Carlos Forbs from Ajax.

He is supposed to be spending the full season there, but now he could actually be making an early return.

It’s been reported by Onda Cero that Chiquinho could be set to return to Wolves in January.

It’s stated Chiquinho has struggled for regular involvement in Spain, due to competition from the likes of Robert Navarro, Valery, Javi LLabrés, Dani Rodríguez and Antonio Sánchez.

The 24-year-old has made just nine appearances across all competitions so far, for a total of just 236 minutes.

Manager Jagoba Arrasate said last week apparently that he will hold a meeting with sporting director Pablo Ortells to discuss the release of some players in January, as he currently has a few too many options.

Chiquinho needs fresh loan move

Wolves officials will be disappointed with how little Chiquinho has featured for Mallorca, and a recall in January seems likely.

There’s probably little chance of Pereira trying to reintegrate him back into the squad, although he could well take a look at him before making a decision.

But it’d be a surprise, with Wolves wells stocked for wide options at the moment.

Chiquinho would have the likes of Goncalo Guedes, Hwang Hee-chan, Carlos Forbs, Rodrigo Gomes, Pablo Sarabia, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Rayan Ait-Nouri for competition.

Unless one of two of those players leave, the £3 million signing is surely not getting a sniff.

If Wolves did bring him back, then it would likely be that Chiquinho would play for the U21s. As he’s already played for Wolves this season (once in the Premier League and once in the EFL Cup), he would not be able to join another club on loan as rules don’t permit playing for three clubs in a season.
