Wolves could see their primary target from last summer making the move to Chelsea in January, according to recent reports.
In the summer of 2023, despite being in a poor financial position, Wolves were chasing Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi for the entirety.
Ultimately due to constraints and the fact the Swiss defender signed a new deal, this doesn’t seem to have deterred possible interest.
It was suggested a few days ago that Elvedi was now keen on changing his club in 2024 following an agent change.
After this, reports have emerged that Wolves may have to watch their top target head elsewhere.

Chelsea linked to Nico Elvedi
According to TeamTalk, Chelsea are interested in making Elvedi a January addition in what could cost the London side a whopping £30m.
This is a vast increase on the £8m deal that Wolves reportedly were discussing over the summer.
Chelsea sees Elvedi as a strong option to replace the ever-injured Reece James which will be a heavy blow for Wolves’ chances in this battle.
Mauricio Pochettinho’s side are lined with money and no doubt will offer over the odds in wages and transfer fee which will leave Wolves probably unable to compete.
Therefore, it’s likely Wolves will need to look elsewhere for their defensive reinforcements. Although Gary O’Neil has earned the right to see his top target gone for in all honesty.
Wolves will need to find alternatives
If Elvedi proves to be out of reach, the point remains that United do need to strengthen in defence.
Playing three centre-halves week-in-week-out means Wolves are bound to encounter problems eventually, given Santi Bueno hasn’t yet proved himself good enough.
Victor Nelsson is one name that has been linked in recent weeks as a potential successor to Craig Dawson.
It is believed a forward is Wolves’ priority in January however when Dawson was absent a few weeks back, the team struggled and clearly, this is a position that needs to be reinforced.
Elvedi would be ideal given he is ‘incredible‘ in so many different aspects of defending, notably his composure and technique.
