£30k-a-week Wolves player won’t be leaving unless ‘ridiculous’ money is offered

Wolves have several players who have been subjected to transfer interest from clubs across Europe.

Pedro Neto has been linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool, but Wolves will only sell for a massive offer, though he is expected to depart Molineux in the summer.

Jose Sa has been phenomenal in between sticks for the past few seasons and he’s now attracting interest from Saudi clubs and Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

Now, midfielder Joao Gomes is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur as they attempt to bolster their midfield.

It was reported yesterday that Wolves wouldn’t sell him for anything less than £30 million, but given how incredible he’s been this term, he’s valued at far more than that.

Wolves will only sell Joao Gomes if ‘ridiculous money’ is offered

Contrary to yesterday’s report, Wolves will only sell the Brazilian if the figure touted is far more than the one being suggested at present.

Journalist Alex Richards is of that agreement too and he doesn’t believes Spurs will conjure up the sort of money that will prise Gomes away from Molineux in this window.

He wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Joao Gomes going nowhere unless the money offered is ridiculous. And Spurs won’t be hitting the kind of number it’ll take, certainly not this window. Stick a pin in that one.”

How much will it take to sign Gomes?

Clubs in general don’t like to do business halfway through the season, unless the players on offer are surplus to requirements.

That isn’t the case for Gomes, who has been so instrumental under Gary O’Neil and is attracting the interest from Tottenham on the back of his stellar performances.

In the Premier League this term, he’s showcased his ability as an all-action midfielder who is excellent at winning possession back and driving his side up the pitch.

According to Sofascore, he ranks fifth in the entire division for tackles won per game (3.2) and this underscores how important he is at protecting his defence.

Given how crucial the £30k-a-week star is to making O’Neil’s troops tick alongside partner Mario Lemina, there isn’t a chance that Wolves would sell him for £30 million.

The figure the Old Gold would be looking at is probably close to double, if not exceeding £60 million and that speaks volumes about how good he’s been.

With Wolves also looking to challenge for Europe – currently three points behind seventh-place Brighton – keeping Gomes will be imperative to that assault.
