Few Wolves fans will have seen this coming just a couple of months ago.
Goncalo Guedes‘ future at Wolves looked to be dead in the water, and the expectation was that Guedes would be sealing an exit in this window.
The Portuguese spent last season on loan at Villarreal and, before that, Benfica.
But fans were left surprised when Gary O’Neil gave him minutes in the training game against Bristol City. Guedes then went on Wolves’ pre-season trip to Miami.
He has slowly been reintegrated, despite reports he didn’t want to be at the club and that he would leave. Previously, Julen Lopetegui had said that Guedes did not want to be at Wolves.
Now, remarkably, Guedes looks set to stay at Molineux beyond today’s transfer deadline.

Guedes’ renaissance at Wolves was complete the other night, as he hit two goals for Wolves in the win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup.
He had started the game, playing through the middle with Daniel Podence supporting.
After the game, O’Neil said that he expected both players to stay at the club. Podence is the subject of interest from Al-Shabab and Olympiacos, and he could well still go.
But for Guedes, it looks as though he will now be sticking around.
It was reported by journalist Liam Keen on the E&S live podcast last night, via the award-winning fan channel Wolves Fancast, that Guedes is now almost certain to stay at the club.
Guedes redemption arc has been surprising
Anything could obviously happen today, but it is sounding very much at this point as though Guedes will be sticking around at Wolves beyond the deadline.
It really is a surprising turn of events.
The narrative had long been that Guedes did not want to be at Wolves and was seeking an exit.
But the picture has really changed this summer, and the player has seemingly had a change of heart. He has cut a pretty happy figure over pre-season, and O’Neil is clearly happy with him and wants to work with him.
It would be amazing, if very unexpected, if Guedes – who signed for the club for £27.5 million – could finally shine in a Wolves shirt.
