26-year-old Wolves player set to leave, medical today after £1.2m fee agreed

Wolves goalkeeper Matija Sarkic is set to join Millwall in a £1.2 million deal.

The Montenegro international had been set to go back to Stoke City earlier this summer.

But that move broke down, and Sarkic then headed out to Portugal for Wolves’ pres-season.

But the 26-year-old is indeed now set to leave Molineux.

And it’s another Championship club in Millwall who stand to sign him.

Matija Sarkic set to leave Wolves for Millwall

Telegraph journalist John Percy has reported this morning that Wolves and Millwall have reached an agreement for Sarkic’s permanent transfer.

Millwall will pay around £1.2 million.

The player is due to have his medical with the Lions today.

Sarkic’s future at Wolves has been in doubt pretty much since the club moved to sign Dan Bentley back in January.

Wanderers sanctioning that particular transfer meant that Sarkic – who was out on loan at Stoke where he picked up an injury – was effectively push down the pecking order to number three.

And earlier this summer, Wolves signed free agent Tom King to become the new number three.

A new challenge for Matija Sarkic is the right thing for all parties

So barring any issues with the medical, Sarkic will be leaving Wolves.

The stopper made just three first-team appearances for the club since making his move from Aston Villa in 2020.

Sarkic always spoke a bout his determination to become the number one at Molineux.

But it just didn’t happen for him.

Sadly he was unable to convince Julen Lopetegui that he could be a long-term option.

The writing was on the wall for him when the club signed Dan Bentley.

Him moving on is the right move for all parties and hopefully now he can enjoy a really good spell with Millwall.

He’s impressed playing in the Championship and it would be great to see him help the club gain promotion to the Premier League.
