£13.5m Wolves star is surely in last-chance saloon with new loan move imminent

One player at Wolves could be in last-chance saloon, as he prepares to embark on another loan move.

Earlier this summer, Wolves completed a move for Pedro Lima.

Wolves landed the Brazilian from Sport Recife, beating Chelsea in the process. Matt Hobbs and his team sold a project that was more in line with what the player wanted.

Wolves paid around £8.5 million for Lima and so far, the signs have been very positive.

Gary O’Neil was speaking about Lima a few days ago, and made it very clear that he’s a big fan. He said that the youngster had ‘unbelievable ability’, but did urge patience over the starlet.

The signing appears to have had consequences for Ki-Jana Hoever, who has been a part of Wolves’ pre-season.

The Dutchman is now set to leave the club to join Sheffield United on loan, and this could very well be his final chance to impress.

After being linked with the Blades earlier this week, it has now been reported by BBC journalist Mantej Mann that Hoever is expected to join Sheffield United on loan for the 2024/25 season and that the deal is very close to completion.

Writing on X, he said: “Wolves defender Ki-Jana Hoever is set to join Sheffield United on loan. Confirmation expected to be announced before the end of the week.”

It would be a second Championship loan move on the trot for Hoever who spent last term with Stoke City, making 44 appearances. That was actually his second spell at the club, after he joined them midway through the 2022/23 season after struggling for minutes at PSV Eindhoven.

One gets the feeling that this will be Hoever’s final chance to show he can do something back at Molineux.

He joined the club at the same time as Nelson Semedo four years ago, with Wolves paying Liverpool an initial £9.5 million for his transfer. That deal could reach £13.5 million through add-ons.

To date, he has only made 25 appearances for Wolves.

Lima signing could make Wolves renaissance difficult for Hoever

Hoever is surely in last-chance saloon regarding his Wolves future.

Since signing for the club in 2020 he has never really threatened to make the right-back/right wing-back spot his own.

He struggled on loan at PSV, but did OK at Stoke last season.

The player has two years left on his contract, so if Hoever is going to make it at Wolves then he needs a top season now with Sheffield United.

That said, it is not out of the question that Wolves could negotiate an option to buy with the Blades, or even an obligation.

Wolves have just signed Lima and he looks to be a top prospect, and someone who might provide Semedo with a strong push. Undoubtedly, his signing is not good news for Hoever, as he prepares to embark on a fresh loan move.
