Steve Bull is one of Wolves’ greatest ever players, and the Molineux icon also has a special honour on the international stage.
Bull played 561 games for the Old Gold and managed to score 306 goals for the club. It is safe to say he is a Wolves legend.
The former player still talks regularly about Wolves and remains a fan of the Molineux side.
However, Steve Bull holds a very impressive record for England, and one that nobody else has managed to do for nearly four decades.
Steve Bull called up for England while playing in the third tier
During the 1988/1989 season, Steve Bull’s goals for Wolves helped them clinch the Third Division title and gain promotion under the tutelage of manager Graham Turner.
Due to his sensational form, Bull was rewarded with a call-up to the England national team. At the time, the Old Gold were technically still a third-tier club.
Since then, no other players from England’s third tier have been given the honour of representing the country.
He remains the last player to achieve this feat in 39 years.
Additionally, Bull is just one of five players to have ever achieved that honour since World War II.
The rest to be given this achievement include Tommy Lawton, who got four caps while playing for Notts County in 1947/48.
Reg Matthews was given five caps while playing for Coventry City in 1955/56, with Johnny Byrne having one cap while playing for Crystal Palace in 1961/62.
Peter Taylor completes the list with four caps while playing for Crystal Palace in 1975/76.
Steve Bull scored four goals for England
Throughout his international career, Bull was only given 13 caps for his country; however, he did score four goals.
His first came off the bench against Scotland on 27 May 1989, with him scoring twice against Czechoslovakia a year later.
He then scored his fourth and final goal against Tunisia before the 1990 World Cup, and that was enough to secure his place in the final squad.
Bull played four times at the tournament but would only start one game, failing to score.
His last match for the Three Lions came a few months later against Poland, and he would never be selected again.
