When Wolves beat Man United 2-0 at Molineux in 24/25, Cunha starred as Fernandes saw red

Wolves face Manchester United on Monday night, and fans will be hoping for a repeat of the last time these two met at Molineux.

Wolves are still looking for that elusive first Premier League win of the season, having failed to taste victory in 14 attempts so far.

Wanderers have picked up just two points, and it has been a poor start for new manager Rob Edwards, who has lost all three games he’s taken so far.

But there is great sympathy for Edwards from the majority of fans, with the anger mainly being directed towards Fosun.

Indeed, Wolves fans will protest against Fosun at Molineux tomorrow night, with many staying out of the ground until 15 minutes have elapsed.

United are big favourites to win tomorrow night. But you never really know with the Red Devils under Ruben Amorim, and Wolves did run out 2-0 winners in this fixture last term.

Wolves have recorded a few victories over United since promotion to the Premier League back in 2018, and the Old Gold won 2-0 in the last meeting at Molineux.

It was the Matheus Cunha show for Wolves, as the Brazilian scored and then assisted Hwang Hee-chan to wrap up the game deep into injury-time.

Wolves’ cause was helped when Bruno Fernandes got sent off for United just after half-time, with Cunha breaking the deadlock 11 minutes later.

And it was quite the memorable strike from Cunha, who actually scored directly from a corner.

With the game about to end, Cunha then broke away before squaring to Hwang for an easy tap-in.

The one-man advantage for Wolves ensured it was a relatively comfortable victory for the hosts, and Cunha lapped up the praise after the game, with Jorgen Strand Larsen describing him as ‘one of the best I’ve ever played with’.

Vitor Pereira added: “He’s very important. His standard is a high-level player. We need high-level players, we need him. I hope he can help us every game. He is a good boy, a good person and he is also a leader inside the team.”

Wolves must be wary of Cunha as he returns to Molineux with Man United

Tomorrow night, Wolves need to make sure Cunha does not have that same level of impact for United.

There is a good chance he will be well up for this game on his first return to Molineux, and the boos he will inevitably receive could spur him on.

What kind of reception should Matheus Cunha get on Monday night?🤔

Pedro Neto and Morgan Gibbs-White both received boos…

Yerson Mosquera is a prime candidate to keep Cunha in check though, with the Colombia international likely to be coming up against him directly.

As we know, Mosquera likes to be physical and he can also get under the skin of his opponents – doing this with Cunha – a player we know can be emotional – could really throw him off.
