Steve Bull challenged former Wolves star to break a long-standing record, he did it four months later

When Steve Bull recognises a top talent at Wolves, fans stop and listen, which is just what the legendary striker did when Nuno Espirito Santo was in charge.

It’s incredibly unlikely that Bull’s record will be broken anytime soon, being at the top of Wolves’ record goalscoring list since his final goal in Old Gold back in 1998.

Bull is still firmly involved at Wolves, taking an interest in all things present-day in the West Midlands, following the progress of Vitor Pereira and his squad closely.

One player Bull was a huge admirer of at Wolves was Raul Jimenez, whom he issued a wild challenge to six years ago.

Raul Jimenez took only four months to make Steve Bull’s prediction come true

Bull predicted that Jimenez would break Steven Fletcher’s Premier League scoring record during the 2019/20 season.

In fact, the Wolves legend insisted the task would be ‘easy’ for the Mexican, sharing his prediction in September 2019.

“Easy. He should do that with absolute ease. He’s a player who keeps plugging away. When you work hard, you get your rewards, and he knows that,” Bull told the Shropshire Star

Wolves’ record goalscorer went on to back Jimenez to break the record very quickly, anticipating it would only take the striker a matter of ‘weeks’.

“He’s a proper striker, an out-and-out goalscorer, so I reckon he’ll get there by Christmas, definitely.

“With how he’s going, we could be talking about him breaking the record in a matter of weeks.”

Goal scorers recognise goal scorers, it seems, as 18 weeks after Bull’s statement, Jimenez broke the record.

Wolves’ top five highest scorers in the Premier League

After hearing what Bull had predicted, Jimenez became Wolves’ highest scoring player in the Premier League just four months later.

It was a tremendous feat and a mesmerising season for the Mexico international, whose record still stands firm today.

Had Matheus Cunha stayed at Wolves, the Brazilian might’ve had a chance at leapfrogging Jimenez, but his exit gives the record some breathing space.

Hwang Hee-chan could stun everyone and get close to Jimenez’s tally, but such would be a real surprise.
