Wolves’ recent away record against teams in Premier League’s top six cause for concern ahead of Bournemouth clash

Next up for Wolves is another Premier League away trip. The Old Gold travel to the South Coast to take on Bournemouth on Saturday.

Despite Wolves suffering a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool last time out, the Old Gold will be in good spirits ahead of this weekend’s match.

Vitor Pereira’s men were unlucky not to take something off Liverpool but will be hopeful they can at least go one better this weekend.

In order to do that though, Wolves must overcome a poor recent away record against teams in the top six.

Wolves’ recent away record against teams in the Premier League’s top six assessed

Pereira will not enjoy looking at Wolves’ recent away record against the Premier League’s best teams. The Old Gold have won just one of their last 28 matchups against teams in the league’s top six.

Wolves’ 2-1 away win against Spurs on the 17th of February, 2024, under the guidance of former manager Gary O’Neil, is the last time they beat top six opposition when playing away from Molineux.

Spurs, at the time, were inside the league’s top six, but were beaten following a brace from Joao Gomes.

Wolves’ recent history against top six sides also includes three draws, with the majority of matches ending in defeats (24).

How Wolves have fared against Bournemouth

Wolves and Bournemouth have played each other 20 times. Nine of those matchups have come in the Premier League.

Although the Cherries, who sit fifth in the table, vying for Champions League football, are having their best-ever top-flight season, Wolves’ record against them is a decent one.

Wolves have won four matches against Andoni Iraola’s team in the league, drawing two. They’ve suffered three defeats, resulting in a 44% win rate — higher than Bournemouth’s 33%.

Although Saturday’s matchup on the South Coast will be a tough one, Wolves will feel a sense of optimism that they can add to their head-to-head record against the Cherries.
