A look back at Wolves’ only two Premier League wins against Liverpool

Wolves are preparing to take on Liverpool in the Premier League. The match’s result will have implications at both ends of the table.

Although massive underdogs, the Old Gold will feel quietly confident they can take something from Anfield.

Liverpool are winless in their last two, and Arne Slot’s recent touchline antics against Everton have put him under the spotlight.

Irrespective of that though, even though Wolves are the side in better form, their record against Sunday’s opponents is poor.

Revisit: Wolves’ Premier League wins against Liverpool

Wolves have only beaten Liverpool twice in the Premier League.

Vitor Pereira’s side have lost all four of their last meetings against Liverpool, scoring just two goals.

The last time Wolves beat Liverpool was on the 4th of February, 2023. The Old Gold thumped them 3-0 at Molineux with goals coming from Craig Dawson and Ruben Neves, as well as an own-goal scored by Joel Matip.

You have to go even further back in the record books to find Wolves’ first-ever Premier League victory over Liverpool.

Mick McCarthy was the manager in charge at the time. The 66-year-old oversaw an impressive 1-0 away win thanks to a winner from Stephen Ward.

Wolves will be hoping to end their run of defeats against Sunday’s opponents.

Vitor Pereira will relish challenge

Pereira is not a man to succumb to pressure. The 56-year-old thrives off the heat being turned up, and with Wolves just above the relegation zone, the pressure is very much on.

With just 14 games to go and Leicester City scrapping for their lives one place below, there is little room for error between now and the end of the season.

Pereira has spoken highly of Slot in the past and will relish the chance to go head-to-head with the fiery Dutchman on the Anfield touchline.

Which one comes out on top could prove decisive in the race for the title, and survival.
