Wolves’ winners and losers so far this season in the Premier League

The Premier League season is now well underway with Wolves getting off to a great start.

Recent form has seen Gary O’Neil’s side propel up the table with fans continuing to grow in optimism about the rest of the campaign.

Their recent dramatic victory against Spurs only emphasises the feel-good factor around Molineux at the moment, with multiple players receiving high praise for their performances

Despite only coming into the club in August, O’Neil seems to have a real grip on what his best XI is. However, as a result, this has caused some players to have little time on the pitch.

In this article we analyse which players we think are the winners and losers so far this season.

Winner – Hwang Hee-Chan

Before this season, the South Korean international had little luck at Wolves since his permanent move to the club in 2021.

Last season, he’d only find the net four times with his strike against Liverpool in the FA Cup ending a 10-month goal drought.

However, in this campaign, the attacker has been excellent. The 27-year-old has already found the back of the net seven times – more than any other season.

Many of those goals have produced highly memorable moments as well, with his winner against Man City standing out.

His form over the past month has also seen him win Wolves’ Player of the Month for October which only enforces how good Hwang has been this season.

Loser  – Santiago Bueno

When the Uruguayan international was signed, many expected him to go straight into the starting XI after some questionable performances from Wolves’ backline.

However, a recent surge in form from Max Kilman and Craig Dawson has seen the defender stuck on the bench for the majority of the season.

His only appearance in a Wolves shirt thus far was in a 3-2 defeat to Ipswich in the Carabao Cup which only hindered his chances of breaking into the starting line-up.

The transfer for the 25-year-old only becomes worse when you realise that his former club, Girona, currently sit top of La Liga, two points clear of Real Madrid.

Winner – Boubacar Traore

Perhaps of one the most underrated players for Wolves so far this season, Traore has been a tank in the middle of the park.

Despite Wolves opting to sign the midfielder permanently in the last campaign, the 22-year-old didn’t see all that much time on the field.

The Malian international only played 11 times in the 2022/23 season with many of his appearances coming from the bench.

However, O’Neil has put more trust into the 22-year-old and has already made it onto the field 10 times this campaign.

With Traore also putting in a series of impressive performances, he is no doubt paying his manager back for his trust.

Loser – Fabio Silva

As each day passes, it looks as if the striker’s career won’t ever work out at Wolves.

After coming to the club for a club-record fee at the time, things just haven’t clicked for the 21-year-old.

Despite finding success last season out on loan, nothing has gone right for Wolves number nine.

His last appearance against Sheffield United was the epitome of his spell in Wolverhampton as he gave away a highly controversial penalty in added time

With another striker likely on their way to Molineux in the new year, Silva’s time at the club may well be coming to an end.

Winner – Pedro Neto

The winger is back to his best this season.

His performances since O’Neil’s arrival have been nothing sort of remarkable. The 23-year-old has already collected seven assists this campaign, the most in the Premier League and has shown no signs of slowing down.

His injury against Newcastle was undoubtedly a blow for Neto and O’Neil. However, with the possibility that he could be fit again for Wolves’ next game will only give the side more momentum going into the Christmas period.

The club must do everything in their power to keep hold of the 23-year-old in the January transfer window with multiple clubs keeping their eye on the winger.

Loser – Jonny

One of Wolves’ longest serving players, Jonny has struggled to find minutes in the team this season.

The fullback has been restricted to a singular appearance in the Premier League this season after the form of Toti Gomes has seen the left-back spot cemented down in recent weeks.

It has been a slow fall from grace for the 29-year-old who was once one of Wolves’ best players.

However, long-term injuries and his inconsistent form have seen him fall down the pecky order at the club. With Hugo Bueno and Stoke loanee Ki-Jana Hoever showing huge potential in his
