Wolves will surely regret not signing ‘incredible’ target who’s outscoring Matheus Cunha in 2024

Wolves wanted to sign a player in the summer transfer window who is currently outscoring forward Matheus Cunha in 2024.

Wolves pocketed around £100 million for Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto and Max Kilman while Gary O’Neil signed eight new players.

The Wanderers captured Sam Johnstone to rival Jose Sa for the number-one spot and improved their midfield with the permanent signings of Andre and Tommy Doyle.

O’Neil also bolstered his forward line, including the signings of Rodrigo Gomes, Carlos Forbs and Jorgen Strand Larsen however, there is one target who they may now regret missing out on.

Wolves will regret not signing Brentford’s Yoane Wissa this summer

In the middle of August, Wolves were searching for a Neto replacement after he completed his move to Chelsea.

One of the names Wolves were looking at was Yoane Wissa, with a deal never progressing further than the talking stage.

The Wanderers ended up signing Forbs to replace Neto on deadline day, who could make his debut against Newcastle but they will now perhaps regret not throwing everything at Wissa.

The 28-year-old – who was dubbed ‘incredible’ by talent scout Antonio Mango – has scored three goals in four Premier League games this term, the latest coming inside just 22 seconds against Manchester City.

Wissa caught the eye at Brentford last season after scoring 12 goals in the top flight; the same total as Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.

However, the Democratic Republic of Congo international has outperformed Cunha across 2024, netting 12 goals in 19 appearances compared to the Brazilian’s tally of nine in 18.

It is therefore frustrating that from what we know, O’Neil didn’t go any further in talks to sign the Brentford attacker.

Wolves needed a goal-scoring forward like Wissa

Wolves have attempted to fill the void of Neto by landing Forbs on loan from Ajax but despite his quality, he’s unproven at Premier League level.

There is no doubt that Forbs is a very exciting signing for Wolves, although after watching Wissa fire at an astonishing rate in 2024, perhaps they wish they signed him too.

Wissa isn’t just a clinical finisher, he’s also clever with his movement and can play anywhere across the front line.

He would have also offered a forward option different in profile to Strand Larsen, who has proven his talent belongs at the highest level.
