Wolves will find it tough vs Liverpool, but there is no better time for them to cause an upset

Any game against Liverpool, as Wolves know from previous history, is tough, but there could be hope for an upset this weekend.

Wolves head into the game with quite a few injury concerns. Toti Gomes’ recent hamstring injury has come at a bad time with Emmanuel Agbadou away at AFCON.

Additionally, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi are still sidelined with injuries as well.

Hugo Bueno looks set to return to the squad, but he may only be fit enough for the bench.

And when it comes to the opposing side’s team news, it presents a unique opportunity for Wolves to cause an upset.

If Wolves were going to head into a game against the current Premier League champions, facing them when they have plenty of injuries is certainly a boost.

Liverpool will go into Saturday’s game with six players ruled out through injury, suspension, and AFCON participation and two players racing to be fit.

Additionally, Ibrahima Konate was not seen in Liverpool training ahead of the weekend, putting doubt onto his involvement.

The Reds will be without the following stars:

While Wolves are heavy underdogs, the scale and noteworthy names missing from their squad present a rare opportunity for the Old Gold.

If Rob Edwards’ side can hold out early and avoid going into the break behind, they can frustrate Anfield like they did against Arsenal, but some tweaks are needed.

Wolves should take more risks vs Liverpool

The game plan against Arsenal almost worked by sitting back, but there was a lack of an outlet up top, and ultimately that was why Wolves found a lack of joy.

With Liverpool weakened across the board, Wolves should look to take more risks.

However, Rob Edwards does have to approach the game by sitting deep and soaking up pressure. Arne Slot has struggled to find ways through low blocks throughout the season.

If the Old Gold can remain composed and organised at the back and then take a few risks further up the pitch, a result could be there for the taking.

It is up to the head coach to apply that message, and continuing with the same attacking players as the last few weeks is not the right way to deliver it.

Tolu Arokodare and Mateus Mane can be an ideal partnership to lead the line, and that is who should start for Wolves.

There is no better time to get risky and creative, especially in a game where little is expected of Wolves.
