Wolves transfer claim may suggest Vitor Pereira is now ready to keep ‘excellent’ £14m player

Hwang Hee-chan could be set to stay at Wolves now given what the club may be about to do in the transfer market.

Hwang Hee-chan had a disappointing season in 2024/25, scoring just two goals in the Premier League.

Injuries didn’t help his cause again, but Hwang also struggled to take his chances when they came.

And that was a shame, because the South Korean had been a key player for Wolves in the previous season under Gary O’Neil, scoring 13 goals.

Sadly though, he was unable to build on that campaign, and as a result, there has been a bit of speculation about Hwang’s future at Molineux recently.

Birmingham City have been linked with Hwang, and it is thought that several other clubs admire him.

But Wolves could be about to do something that means he stays put.

Goncalo Guedes news surely points to Hwang Hee-chan staying at Wolves

Another player who’s again been linked with an exit from Wolves this summer is Goncalo Guedes.

Guedes recently hinted he could stay at Wolves with the way he spoke about the club and his own happiness in a new interview.

But a few days later it was claimed that Real Sociedad are now set to sign Guedes on a permanent transfer.

Talks between the clubs were advanced, and the deal was said to be ‘only a matter of time’.

And that is interesting in terms of £14 million signing Hwang (BBC Sport).

Hwang and Guedes are similar players in terms of position – both are wide forwards who can do a job playing as a central striker.

It has always felt like it could be one or the other if Wolves were going to sell, rather than both.

Given the development with Guedes, it is now looking like Hwang could be set for a fifth season at Molineux.

Hwang must step up for Wolves in 2025/26

Of course, it’s not out of the question Hwang could still go.

A club may well try to test Wolves’ resolve over the player, although any bids like the £21 million one from Marseille for Hwang last year are probably unlikely.

At this point, him staying looks more likely – and he’ll need to step up in 2025/26.

Hwang – who was previously hailed as ‘excellent’ by Gary O’Neil – wasn’t good enough last season and he himself will have accepted that.

He’s a senior player in the squad who’s been here for a while now, and Vitor Pereira will need him to rediscover his mojo, in what could be a testing season for Wolves.

Given the arrivals of Jhon Arias and Fer Lopez we will see how often he starts, but hopefully he can rise to the challenge.
