Wolves to make transfer U-turn after Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s injury

Wolves have learned the length of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s injury, and it’s very bad news.

Next up for Wolves is Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Emirates, fresh off their 3-0 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League.

It’ll be the last game that features Emmanuel Agbadou before he heads off to the African Cup of Nations, so it will be interesting to see whether Rob Edwards tries something new.

Edwards has a few big decisions to make. Firstly, Jorgen Strand Larsen just hasn’t fired for Wolves, and the fact that Tolu Arokodare was omitted from Nigeria’s squad opens the door for competition.

Meanwhile, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s injury means a hole has been left in the middle of midfield. But it’s not as simple as replacing him with a central midfielder, as Wolves need creativity.

POV: You are Rob Edwards, and the one player you hope is not in Arsenal’s starting XI on Saturday is ________.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde ruled out for at least six weeks

Rob Edwards had leaned on Jean-Ricner Bellegarde to play in the role just in front of the two central midfielders, connecting midfield to attack.

He started to come into his own against Manchester United, which followed on from a brilliant performance two games back from Bellegarde against Aston Villa.

However, Bellegarde is set to be out for six or more weeks after being substituted during the Man United clash, Rob Edwards has confirmed.

Wolves fans, who should take Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s place in the starting XI?

Wolves forced into Fer Lopez U-turn after Jean-Ricner Bellegarde injury

Wolves had plans to loan Fer Lopez out in January, with a return to Celta Vigo being touted.

However, Munetsi’s and Bellegarde’s injuries have left the Old Gold in a tough place, where Fer Lopez is now the only attacking midfielder left at Edwards’ disposal.

Lopez couldn’t even get a look in under Vitor Pereira, but Edwards has started to integrate him into the side over the last couple of games.

And there’s a distinct possibility that he gets a lot more game time from now until January, and even beyond depending on his performances.

But one thing is for sure. Wolves cannot afford to get rid of their only creative outlet.
