Wolves target just gave Vitor Pereira another reason to sign him at the Club World Cup

Wolves aren’t at the Club World Cup, but will be paying close attention to an array of transfer targets in action.

Vitor Pereira’s focus will be on bolstering his Wolves squad in preparation for the 2025/26 campaign.

Some at Wolves believe a fight for European football is possible, telling of the belief that Pereira has instilled into his players.

First, the Old Gold will need to replenish the squad in the summer transfer window, and one name on Pereira’s list might have just earned himself extra brownie points.

Wolves target Gerson causes surprise at the Club World Cup

Many players have not yet been granted the chance to enjoy their summer holidays due to the Club World Cup.

The tournament involves 32 teams from across the globe, including a host of players known at Wolves

Five former Wolves stars are at the Club World Cup, as are several transfer targets, thanks to the Brazilian clubs in action.

Wolves target Richard Rios starred for Palmeiras against FC Porto, and more recently, another player on Pereira’s radar has showcased his quality.

After Mario Lemina’s departure, Wolves’ interest in Flamengo’s Gerson was revealed.

The Brazilian midfielder was considered as an option to bolster Pereira’s midfield, but in Flamengo’s opening Club World Cup fixture, Gerson showed that he can, in fact, offer a lot more.

That’s because the 28-year-old played the fixture on the right flank of a 4-2-3-1 formation, moving over to accommodate the newly arriving Jorginho from Arsenal.

If seeing Gerson as a right-sided forward was a surprise, his performance was even more of a shock, as the Brazil international showed his versatility.

As seen through his numbers, the Wolves target was a force that Tunis just couldn’t live with, drawing four fouls and completing every single one of his attempted dribbles.

Wolves have another reason to sign Gerson

A midfielder with the versatility to play in wide areas and threaten high up the pitch is everything that Pereira needs following Matheus Cunha’s exit.

The Brazilian, who signed for Manchester United, left a void in the Wolves squad that will be difficult to fill with just one player, which is why Gerson’s array of skills could be all the more appealing.

Against Tunis, the 28-year-old showed his instinctual attacking qualities as well as his ability to snuff out danger, winning eight duels.

Being a player with many strings to his bow, Gerson could offer Wolves a lot in areas that are currently lacking, with all eyes on whether the Old Gold will further explore his availability.
