Wolves star who won 100% of his duels vs Bournemouth just sent Troy Deeney a strong message

Wolves’ win over Bournemouth saw more than just Matheus Cunha shine bright on the South Coast.

Vitor Pereira will be delighted by his side’s performance to earn three points at the Vitality.

Wolves beat Bournemouth 1-0 thanks to a Matheus Cunha first-half goal, with the lead preserved against the Cherries’ ten men until full-time.

Cunha netted his 13th goal of the season to earn the headlines but, the Brazilian wasn’t the only player to impress against Andoni Iraola’s side.

Toti Gomes was unmoveable against Bournemouth

We are running out of words to describe Cunha’s impact at Wolves but, the Old Gold’s push for safety has required more than just the Brazilian’s magic.

Against Bournemouth, it could be argued that Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was as good as Cunha and the Frenchman wasn’t the only top performer.

From the two attackers to Andre’s masterclass in midfield, it was in defence where another superstar lay, as Toti Gomes dazzled at the Vitality.

The Portugal international won every single one of his duels both in the air and on the ground, being a near-impossible figure for the hosts to contend with.

Toti has been transformed by Pereira, which is delightful to see given the harsh criticism that the defender was subject to before the new Wolves manager arrived.

Troy Deeney asked to be reminded of Toti Gomes comments

When Gary O’Neil reverted to a back four, Toti was one of the players that suffered the most, enduring a nightmare start to the season.

After match day one, Troy Deeney shared some choice feedback on Toti following Wolves’ defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.

On the Ben Foster – The Cycling GK podcast, Deeney called the Wolves centre-back a ‘car crash’ and urged fans to remember what he said about the 26-year-old.

“The boy Toti, mate, he falls over his laces. He’s a car crash, remember I said that, he’s a car crash.”

Deeney would have been left red-faced after Toti’s performance against Bournemouth and is hopefully regretting what he said about the Portugal international.
