Wolves star who has played just twice this season deserves first-team chance before end of campaign

Wolves need just five more points to guarantee Premier League survival. It’s a matter of when, not if.

Vitor Pereira’s appointment in December, at the expense of Gary O’Neil, who was sacked following defeat against Ipswich, has proven to be a great decision by Fosun.

The Wolves manager has turned the team around and will soon be looking ahead to next season.

Nasser Djiga continues to wait for Wolves opportunity

Making some key signings shortly after Pereira’s arrival, including bringing in Emmanuel Agbadou and Marshall Munetsi from Stade Reims, as well as Nasser Djiga from Red Star, Wolves were the second highest spenders in January.

Agbadou and Munetsi have both played important roles, but Djiga has seen his chances limited.

The young centre-back made his Wolves debut against Bournemouth in February but has featured just once ever since.

Although never likely to come in and immediately replace the experienced Matt Doherty on the right side of Wolves’ back line, Djiga might’ve been expecting to get a few more minutes.

That hasn’t been the case, though…

Survival key to Djiga’s first team chances

Once Wolves’ top-flight status is secured, which could be as early as the end of the month, Pereira should use the remaining games as a chance to give Djiga more playing time.

The young centre-back must get up to speed with the fast-paced and robust Premier League, and it’s better to trial him when there’s nothing at stake.

Pereira could have as many as four more games to play once survival is guaranteed. Resting Doherty and giving Djiga a chance is the logical step for the 22-year-old to take as he looks to develop in England’s top flight ahead of next season, when he will be expected to contribute more.
