Wolves have a lack of options in midfield, particularly to replace Andre or Joao Gomes if needed, but there is a free agent on the market who could be a smart short-term punt.
The Old Gold typically do not spend big, and the January market can be tough to prise players away from their clubs.
That makes free agents an appealing area to look in.
Fosun have reportedly told Edwards key players will remain, and that is a major boost for the new Wolves boss, but incomings are also a big priority at Molineux.
Which position do Wolves need to prioritise in January?
The club missed out on signing a midfielder in the summer, and the focus areas should not have shifted too much with the arrival of Rob Edwards.
There is a Premier League-proven midfielder available for free, and it could be worth a punt by the Old Gold in January.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be a worthy risk for Wolves

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain mutually terminated his contract with Besiktas at the end of the summer transfer window, and the Englishman is still without a club.
There are many reasons why this would be beneficial for Wolves, aside from the obvious financial aspects involved.
Oxlade-Chamberlain would satisfy the homegrown criteria that the Old Gold must hit, and bringing him in would mean they would not have to get rid of a foreign player from their squad list.
Additionally, the player has spent 12 years in the Premier League, and he has proven himself at the top level as well. He has 235 appearances in England’s top division.
Chamberlain’s wages are also not excessive; his reported £42,000 a week in Turkey seems more than fair for a player of his experience.
On a short-term deal, it is surely worth considering.
Rob Edwards rejuvenated Ross Barkley at Luton
While the Wolves project is not necessarily attractive, Oxlade-Chamberlain could look to Ross Barkley as an example.
Rob Edwards brought him into Luton after he spent a year in France and turned his career in England around.
After a poor spell at Chelsea, it seemed Barkley had wasted his talent, but under Edwards, he won Luton’s Player of the Season award for 2023/2024.
However, a current Wolves star can also draw comparisons with Barkley.
Oxlade-Chamberlain may be attracted to the idea of a manager who has previous experience of getting the best out of what is essentially a Premier League ‘outcast’.
Wolverhampton is also just a 90-minute drive from his home in Cheshire, which could be another appealing prospect, allowing him to see his son more often.
