Wolves player who Gary O’Neil criticised in 2024 must be sold by Vitor Pereira this summer

Wolves are heading for a potential transformative summer under the guidance of Vitor Pereira, with some fans feeling excited by the prospect.

Wolves know that their Premier League status is secure for next season as their 4-2 win over Tottenham saw the Old Gold move 14 points clear of the bottom three.

So, Vitor Pereira can plan for the summer ahead, with several players expecting to leave the club, including star forward Matheus Cunha.

Big clubs want Cunha and are prepared to trigger his £62.5 million release clause as Manchester United have already spoken to his agent.

A deal for the Brazilian will be accelerated once the window opens, seeing several clubs create a transfer tug of war. Unsurprisingly, he isn’t the only player who should be exiting Molineux.

Wolves should sell Santiago Bueno this summer

Wolves have seen an incredible improvement defensively since Emmanuel Agbadou was signed from Stade Reims, with the Ivorian taking his place in central defence.

Agbadou, alongside Matt Doherty and Toti Gomes, have been incredible, creating a solid defensive base for Pereira’s men to build from.

Unfortunately for Santiago Bueno, the form of that Wolves trio has seen his playing time get restricted, and the Uruguayan hasn’t started a game in the league since a 2-1 defeat to Fulham in February.

Since then, the Wanderers have drawn to Everton and secured wins over Southampton, West Ham, Ipswich Town and Tottenham.

Bueno was poor in the defeat to Fulham, and ironically, Wolves have witnessed massive improvements defensively since he’s dropped out of the team.

With the defensive options at Pereira’s disposal, including new signing Nasser Djiga Pereira should look to sell him this summer, especially after comments made by Gary O’Neil previously.

Gary O’Neil felt Bueno wasn’t physical enough

As a defender at the top level, physicality is everything, and unfortunately, one of the most important attributes is letting him down.

The former Girona man doesn’t possess the upper-body strength to win battles against Premier League strikers, and often finds himself being bullied.

Andy Thompson criticised Bueno for his lack of strength previously, as he was bullied by Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz, and he wasn’t the only one.

In the loss to West Ham in December, O’Neil pointed out Bueno’s lack of physicality as Wolves were short on options defensively.

“It’s not a group that’s built to deal with physical play,” O’Neil said. “You know, Santi Bueno, good centre-back, but not a big physical strong one. We lost Yerson, we lost Max – being competitive in those areas is a challenge for us.”

Pereira will want to progress up the table with Wolves, and some players will have to make way, including Bueno.
