Wolves player ratings for the season so far, Joao Gomes shines but there’s one 2/10

Wolves player ratings after a highly successful campaign so far. Plenty of first-teamers shine, however, one still gets a 2/10.

Under the guidance of Gary O’Neil, Wolves have moved far and away from the relegation zone and are now competing for Europe.

As a result, Molineux has overseen plenty of memorable victories throughout the campaign. This is despite injuries plaguing the majority of the first team for a good portion of 2024.

Now, with the campaign set to come to an end in a couple of months, we rate how the players have done so far this season.

Wolves goalkeeper’s rated

Jose Sa – 7/10

One of the most underrated players for Wolves this season. O’Neil’s No1 has won the club plenty of points this campaign with some truly magnificent displays. Stats also indicate that Sa is the second-best goalkeeper in the Premier League this season thanks to his form.

In recent weeks, the Portuguese international is now finally receiving the recognition he deserves for a highly impressive campaign.

Dan Bentley – 4/10

Unfortunately, Bentley has looked shaky every time he has played this season. His appearances have become less and less common with O’Neil opting for Sa over Bentley in the FA Cup.

His defining moments this season came against Ipswich. The goalkeeper made three poor mistakes which cost Wolves the win as they went from 2-0 up to 3-2 down.

Tom King – 6/10

While King may not have played this season, he has no doubt had a big impact on the training ground. For a third-keeper, this is exactly what you want as a manager to keep the squad morale high. As a result, he was rewarded with a new deal.

Matt Doherty – 6/10

Doherty’s return to Molineux has been fairly successful. The Irishman has mainly been used as a squad player and he has fulfilled this role. His late cameos at the end of games have helped see out a result or even affect it, such as his late goal against Chelsea on Christmas Eve.

Rayan Ait-Nouri – 8/10

One of the main standouts so far this season. Ait-Nouri has helped propel Wolves up the table thanks to a series of outstanding performances. The wingback has come a long way since the summer when it was rumoured that the club were looking to sell the Algerian.

Now, Ait-Nouri can do a job almost anywhere on the pitch effectively. In recent weeks he has even been deployed successfully as a striker to combat Wolves injuries.

Santiago Bueno – 5/10

A new addition to the squad this season, it was hoped that Santiago Bueno would add much-needed stability to the backline. However, the Uruguayan international has struggled to cement a regular spot in Wolves’ shaky defence.

Craig Dawson – 7/10

The most consistent player in Wolves’ back three. Dawson has put his body on the line multiple times this campaign to earn the club some vital points. The defender is easily the most important centre-back Wolves have with the backline struggling when he is not available.

Hugo Bueno – 5/10

The Spaniard hasn’t lit the world alight for Wolves this season. In his run of games at the end of 2023, Hugo Bueno was unable to make a significant impact. Sadly, what should have been his key moment in a Wolves shirt will now be forgotten. He put the club in front late on against Coventry only to lose the game in added time.

Nelson Semedo – 9/10

Often cited as Wolves’ most improved player this season, Semedo has impressed every time he has entered the pitch. Even when the side has a bad game, Semedo never puts in a performance lower than a 6/10.

The wing-back has dominated the right side and pocketed multiple world-class wingers throughout the campaign. Semedo could easily be in with a shout for Wolves’ player of the season.

Max Kilman – 6/10

Kilman has had an ok season in his first season as captain. The defender put in multiple good performances this season. However, consistency continues to be an issue.

Wolves’ defence continues to make mistakes and rarely keeps a clean sheet. This was exposed massively against Coventry in the FA Cup but has been a common theme throughout the season. As captain, Kilman will have to take the majority of the responsibility.

Toti Gomes – 6.5/10

This season, Toti Gomes has cemented himself as a regular in the side. The Portuguese international clearly has the potential to really kick on for Wolves. Next season will be a vital one for the defender to see if he has a long-term future in the side.

Wolves midfielder’s rated

Mario Lemina – 9/10

Arguably Wolves’ Player of the Season. Mario Lemina has really stood up to the Premier League challenge this campaign. Not only has the midfielder dominated many of the games he has played, but he has also netted some of the most important goals this season.

Lemina scored the only goal in Wolves’ round-of-16 game against Brighton. Back in November he also netted a dramatic late winner against Spurs to win the game in added time.

Boubacar Traore – 6.5/10

Traore has often been used as a squad player throughout the campaign. However, he has never let Wolves down in his appearances. Often deployed to see out a close game, Traore adds more steel to the midfielder and can really disrupt the opposition’s tempo.

Joao Gomes – 9/10

Another man who will be in contention for Wolves’ Player of the Season, Joao Gomes has been at the heart of O’Neil’s team this season. The Brazilian has become a master at tackling and stopping the opposition so Wolves can counter-attack effectively.

His importance to the team cannot be overstated. When he was injured against Newcastle, fans saw how quickly Wolves can collapse without him. Joao Gomes was also central to one of the best victories this campaign when he netted twice past Spurs to beat them 2-1.

Tommy Doyle – 7.5/10

Another player who has been widely consistent throughout the campaign. Doyle has barely put a foot wrong this season and has been one of the club’s best players in each of his appearances. The only reason he is not higher is because he is yet to cement a regular spot in the starting XI.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 5/10

Bellegarde looked a highly promising player when he walked into the club. The Frenchman was fantastic against Liverpool. However, since his red card against Luton, little of his magic has been seen again. Much of this can be attributed to him playing out of position.

Wolves attacker’s rated

Pedro Neto – 8.5/10

Easily Wolves’ most exciting player, every time Neto enters the pitch you know something is going to happen. The winger carried the side at the start of the season to multiple victories when O’Neil was finding his feet at the club.

Unfortunately, this campaign has still seen the winger struggling with injuries with him likely not to play again this season. Neto would have easily been Player of the Season if he had stayed fit but sadly he is likely to have missed half the season by its end.

Hwang Hee-Chan – 8/10

Wolves’ South Korean sensation. Hwang finally showed everyone what he was capable of in late 2023 when the attacker was scoring goals for fun. Before the Asian Cup, he left Wolves with a bang as he netted twice past Brentford in a 4-1 win.

Sadly, that was the last time Wolves saw Hwang at his best. International duty combined with injuries have meant the South Korean has played little in 2024.

Matheus Cunha – 8/10

Another magic man, Cunha was on fire for Wolves mid-way through the season. Goals were coming left, right and centre as the Brazilian finally found his grove.

The start of the campaign was difficult for Cunha as he struggled to find the net. However, since his rocket against Bournemouth, Cunha is finally showing what he is capable of. Unfortunately, an injury has stopped his season for now.

Pablo Sarabia – 8.5/10

Another man who is arguably Wolves’ most improved player this season. Sarabia had a difficult start to life at the club and had no impact in his first six months in England.

After the defeat to Ipswich, it looked as if his career at Molineux would soon be coming to an end. However, an unreal performance against Spurs completely changed his fortunes around. Now, Sarabia is easily Wolves’ most creative player and could have an outside shout of winning Wolves’ Player of the Season.

Sasa Kalajdzic – 6.5/10

It was the first time many Wolves fans will have seen Kalajdzic this season after his brutal injury last campaign. Despite not being able to force himself into the side, the striker netted some important goals at the start of the season.

If it wasn’t for that late winner against Everton in August, Wolves could well have been in a world of trouble.

However, Kalajdzic quickly fell out of favour and his season at Molineux ended in January when he was sent out on loan.

Fabio Silva – 2/10

Fabio Silva is 100% Wolves’ most disappointing player this campaign. After two successful loan spells last season, there was much expectation around the youngster with fans hoping to finally see the best of their former record signing.

The striker was even given the iconic number nine shirt in a real show of faith from the Wolves staff.

However, nothing went right for Fabio Silva. The striker missed some big opportunities earlier in the season and couldn’t make an impact. Perhaps his most memorable moment was the controversial penalty he conceded against Sheffield United causing Wolves to lose the game in the last minute.

By January he was shipped out on loan to Rangers with no Premier League goals under his belt this campaign. It almost looks certain that he has played his last game in a Wolves shirt

Nathan Fraser – 7/10

While the youngster may have been thrown into the deep end this season, he can come out with his head held high. Despite being just 18 years old for the majority of the campaign, Fraser has found the net twice, scoring a vital equaliser against Brentford in the FA Cup.

Fraser might not yet be ready for regular Premier League football, but he has certainly shown that he has plenty of potential in the future.
