Wolves player has just given Vitor Pereira a major selection headache vs Fulham

Wolves crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night – but one player’s fine display could now give Vitor Pereira a real selection headache this weekend against Fulham.

Wolves can now focus on the Premier League having lost 4-3 to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup at Molineux.

A poor first-half was Wolves’ undoing, with Chelsea going in at half-time 3-0 up.

Wolves were much improved after the break though, and the likelihood is that a lot of the players who finished the game against Chelsea will be starting against Fulham.

Key to Wolves’ improvement in the second-half against Chelsea was the introduction of Ladislav Krejci at half-time.

And the Czech international may have left Vitor Pereira scratching his head ahead of the game with Fulham.

Ladislav Krejci may be a midfield pick for Wolves against Fulham

Krejci did not start against Chelsea, but was sent on in place of the injured Rodrigo Gomes at half-time.

And Krejci – who was recently branded the best player at Wolves by Johnny Phillips – took up a position in midfield alongside Joao Gomes.

Fer Lopez had finished the half playing as a number six, and sadly he just did not look at all comfortable.

But Krejci has played there before – and immediately after his introduction Wolves looked more solid and composed in the middle.

Krejci, who was Wolves’ Player of the Month for September – provided steel and authority next to the Brazilian, and helped Wolves to compete much better.

And him shining there now throws up a dilemma for Pereira.

Because Krejci has also stood out in defence, both in a back three and a back four.

It seems not to matter too much where Krejci plays, the result is usually that he stands out and it will be very interesting to see if Pereira does keep him in the engine room for Saturday’s visit to Craven Cottage.

Winners and losers of Krejci playing in midfield vs Fulham

Let’s assume that Pereira will play Krejci in midfield against Fulham, which is a distinct possibility.

This could potentially make Toti Gomes a winner, in that he would surely play in the left of a three if Pereira goes with that system.

But there are a few potential losers of Krejci pushing into midfield.

Most minutes played for Wolves in 2025/26
1. Marshall Munetsi – 819
2. Joao Gomes – 818
3. Hugo Bueno – 795
4. Andre – 780
5. Emmanuel Agbadou – 708
6. Jhon Arias – 675
7. Ladislav Krejci – 675
8. Santiago Bueno – 664′
9. Jorgen Strand Larsen – 652
10. Sam Johnstone – 630

We’ve already seen Andre be dropped a couple of times this season, including against Newcastle United with Krejci replacing him directly. Perhaps Krejci’s display against Chelsea could be bad news for the Brazilian in terms of starting this weekend.

But there is also the potential for Krejci to play with both Andre and Joao Gomes in midfield.

If that is to be the case, then that wouldn’t be great for the likes of Marshall Munetsi, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Fer Lopez, who can all operate as advanced midfielders.

Certainly, Pereira has a lot to consider, as he seeks to finally get that first Premier League win on the board.
