Wolves must ensure they do one thing in Fabio Silva negotiations, it would benefit them massively

The future of Portuguese striker Fabio Silva is no closer to being resolved however, if they do agree on a deal to sell him, Wolves must ensure they do one thing.

Fabio Silva is inarguably one of the biggest flops ever to wear a Wolves shirt.

Silva arrived at Molineux as an 18-year-old in 2020 with a huge weight of expectations on his young shoulders.

Wolves shelled out a club-record £35 million fee to sign the Portuguese striker. It was a deal that was heavily questioned at the time, as paying that much money for a teenager was ludicrous.

Unfortunately, four years after making his switch to Wolverhampton, Silva has prolifically proven the doubters right instead of wrong, scoring a measly five goals in 72 appearances.

Now aged 22, the young striker has also been shifted out on loan multiple times, enjoying two spells at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven in 2022/23 before being sent to Rangers in January this year.

Wolves must insert sell-on clause in any deal for Fabio Silva

Silva has crumbled under the weight of expectation at Molineux but during temporary spells at Anderlecht and PSV, the forward showed promise.

For the former, he plundered seven goals in 20 Belgian Pro League appearances while for the latter, he netted four goals in 14 Eredivisie matches.

A tally of 11 goals across the two loans was a respectable return for Silva, who had an opportunity to impress on his return to England under new manager, Gary O’Neil.

That was until he didn’t do enough to impress O’Neil and was frozen out of the squad, playing just 262 Premier League minutes before being shipped out to Rangers in January, where he continued his poor performances, netting just twice in the Scottish Premiership.

While Wolves accept they’ll never recoup close to the fee they paid for Silva, they must insert a sell-on clause in any deal that is agreed.

It’s been a tough few years for Silva however, he’s still very young, showed promise in spells at PSV and Anderlecht while still boasting decent potential.

A sell-on clause for the player, even if it’s 20%, could land Wolves financial windfall in the future, depending on whether he hits a purple patch of form.

Wolves current stance on Fabio Silva now made clear

O’Neil’s men are currently in Marbella for a warm-weather training camp in preparation for the Premier League.

Silva and another Molineux outcast, Goncalo Guedes, were both left out of the squad with the club deciding that giving them an extra few days break will help them clarify their futures.

That is according to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, who claim that La Liga side Sevilla remain interested in Silva but they aren’t currently in a position to submit a high transfer fee.

While there’s no mention of what Wolves value their Portuguese striker at, one thing is for sure, they want his £80k-a-week wages off the books this summer.
