Wolves may have missed out on £10m bargain as former target makes Nottingham Forest history

Wolves have had a poor start to the season which many have put down to bad recruitment – and one player the club were linked with is already thriving elsewhere.

Wolves are bottom of the Premier League table after five games, having lost every match so far.

It was always going to be a tough start, but fans are now very concerned about the fate of the club with Wolves struggling in all areas of the pitch.

The Carabao Cup win over Everton was encouraging. But there is a lot of work for Vitor Pereira to do to get Wolves in a good place again.

Wolves’ recruitment in the summer 2025 window was very questionable.

It was a window in which the club missed out on several players, and in the end many fans were glad to see the back of it.

But one player Wolves were linked with looks to be a real talent.

Wolves signed Tolu Arokodare on transfer deadline day.

The striker came in from Genk for around £24 million, and the hope is that he will ease the goalscoring burden on Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Arokodare scored his first Wolves goal against Everton in brilliant fashion, and hopefully there will be many more to follow.

But months before the Nigerian signed, Wolves were linked with Igor Jesus. It was claimed Nottingham Forest and Everton were all keen ahead of the January 2025 window, but no move materialised for any of the clubs.

In the end though, Jesus completed a move to Nottingham Forest this summer for £10 million (BBC Sport).

That transfer fee for Jesus seemed very cheap – and now, it is already looking like a total bargain.

Jesus has immediately hit the ground running for Forest, scoring four goals in just six appearances and in just 154 minutes of time on the pitch.

And Jesus is coming in for special praise after what he did last night for Forest. They drew with Real Betis in the Europa Conference League, with Jesus scoring a brace.

That saw him make history for Forest, as he became the first player ever to score twice on his major European competition debut for the Reds.

Wolves not pushing for Igor Jesus was surprising

Wolves seemingly did not make any approach for Jesus in the summer, which was something of a surprise.

We know that Wolves like to scout in South America, and obviously there are a few success stories for the club having plucked players from the Brazilian top-flight, such as Joao Gomes and Andre.

We also know that Wolves like to spend low, and the club have paid around that £10 million figure for several players in recent times.

It will be interesting to watch how things go for Jesus at the City Ground.

Certainly, the early signs are very good and he is already very popular with Reds fans.

Hopefully for Wolves, Arokodare will ensure there ultimately need not be any regrets about not pushing for Jesus.
