Wolves may already be halfway to replacing Matheus Cunha after what’s been seen in training

John Arias is set to be the second summer transfer signing that Wolves will have made this window, as the deal to bring him from Brazil seems to have been arranged.

The Colombian international is set to be joining the club after Wolves reached an agreement with Fluminense to sign the attacker.

Arias is taking a pay cut to join Wolves, in what is a clear message to Fluminense of his desire to play in the Premier League.

He is seen as a replacement for Matheus Cunha, after the Brazilian left Molineux to join Manchester United.

While he is being seen as an option to replace Cunha, he is seen as only half of the solution.

Fer Lopez impressing while in pre-season training with Wolves

Wolves have been out in Portugal for the last week as they have begun their pre-season training ahead of the new 2025/26 campaign.

Vitor Pereira’s men lost to Santa Clara in a friendly on Thursday, where the performance mattered more than the result.

The performance of Fer Lopez has particularly caught the eye while the club have been in Portugal, with Jorgen Strand Larsen telling Wolves Express exactly what he has thought of the Spaniard.

The Spaniard has shown glimpses of ability similar to that of Pablo Sarabia, being incredibly talented on the ball and displaying the technique he possesses, particularly with his passing ability.

How Fer Lopez can replace Matheus Cunha

While Lopez is not the finished article at just 21 years old, he has shown last season with Celta Vigo exactly what he will bring to Wolves and how he can ease the loss of Matheus Cunha.

Lopez has never been clinical in front of goal, but his passing ability can help ease the loss of Cunha, as the Spaniard was incredibly creative with the ball.

Cunha is more prone to take risks when attempting his passes; this is in order to create goals, while Fer Lopez is more controlled in his approach.

This could also signal a different approach from Vitor Pereira in attack as he looks to control things through Lopez, with the Spaniard creating the opening with integrated passing compared to the approach taken by Cunha.
