Wolves loaning Coady to Everton would be an unfathomable decision

Wolves captain Conor Coady has been linked with a move to Everton.

The Molineux captain was named on the bench for the opening Premier League game against Leeds United yesterday.

Bruno Lage set up with a back four, as was expected given he’d rolled it out in pre-season.

Nathan Collins and Maximilian Kilman were the pairing, with Rayan Ait-Nouri and Jonny Castro Otto the full-backs.

It is thought Lage will primarily be using a back four from now on. But there have been suggestions the manager may turn to a back three here and there.

As a result of the formation change, Coady’s status as a nailed-on starter is now under threat.

Everton are reported to be keen and Paul Joyce has now reported that Everton are closing in on the England international.

The Toffees are said to expect to beat West Ham United to his signature, and it could be a loan move with a view to buy according to the journalist.

Everton are hoping to wrap up a deal this week so they can count on the player to be available to face Aston Villa.

Coady is under contract until 2025 at Molineux.

Frankly, Wolves allowing Coady to join Everton on loan would be an unfathomable decision.

Wolves loaning Coady to Everton does not help the club or Bruno Lage in any way

It is very worrying to read that Everton are now closing in on Coady. And it’s hard to understand that it’s looking like it will be a loan move.

Coady has been a solid performer since Wolves came back into the top-flight, and is an England international with 10 caps to his name.

He may not be so comfortable playing in a back four, but Everton – the team that hold an interest in him – now play with a back three and wing-backs.

There is simply no way Wolves should be this, especially knowing that Everton badly need a central defender after losing Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina to injury. There is money to be made here if he is going to be offloaded.

If Frank Lampard is such a big fan as is claimed, Wolves cannot make it so easy for them.

Also, it is a well known fact that Coady is an absolutely world-class leader and captain. He would be absolutely brilliant for Everton’s dressing room, which is another reason Wolves cannot offload him without securing a fee.
