Wolves are into the fourth round of the FA Cup after an inspiring performance against Sheffield United from Daniel Podence.

The diminutive forward started for the fourth game in a row at Molineux on Sunday.

With Hwang Hee-chan currently on the sidelines, this is Podence’s moment to step up.

And he is certainly doing that.

He was the star of the show against the Blades, scoring two goals and playing a big part in the goal that Nelson Semedo scored.

His playmaking and technical skills were a sight to behold on Sunday. And his link-up play with Fabio Silva was particularly impressive.

The performance came after Podence had really impressed in the victory at Old Trafford. He was also lively in the last two games of 2021 against Chelsea and Brighton.

Wolves fans will be delighted that Podence is finally showing his talent a bit more consistently. That has arguably not always been the case for the 26-year-old.

He didn’t have a particularly great 2020/21. And there was even some speculation that Podence could have reunited with Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham.

talkSPORT had claimed that Wolves were ‘apparently willing to sell’, after he had failed to hit the ground running at Molineux and had fitness truggles.

Who knows how close Wolves actually came to offloading £60,000-a-week star Podence in the summer.

But there is no doubt some fans were not against it happening.

He blew hot on cold throughout the previous campaign and could often frustrate.

But just now, something seems to have clicked with Podence. He’s managing to get more minutes, and the consistency is finally starting to come.

If he can just stay fit, then he could have a very big impact for Wolves between now and the end of the season.
