Wolves fans propose Football Manager-style punishment for Matheus Cunha amid Man Utd transfer links

Wolves are shaping up to be one of the busiest Premier League clubs this summer.

Vitor Pereira will have some big decisions to make, including who to bring in to replace Matheus Cunha.

With Wolves’ Premier League survival assured, attention is soon to turn to the window, and for Cunha, that is likely to mean leaving Molineux.

Wolves fans react to Matheus Cunha to Man United transfer rumours

Manchester United are leading the race to sign Cunha. The Red Devils hope to add the Brazilian in time for next season, with Ruben Amorim looking to transform his attack.

And with a minimum release clause worth £62.5 million, Wolves will be powerless to stop a deal from materalising.

Consequently, ahead of what looks to be a relatively cut-and-dry deal, Wolves fans have reacted online with several suggesting Pereira should drop Cunha for the rest of the season.

Another fan added: “We know Cunha is leaving in the summer, but it needs to be on our terms. Accepting a flexible deal from United is not what we need.”

“Cunha off to United. £62.5m to us, £20m profit and off he goes to a bang average team. Thanks for the memories, genuinely wouldn’t play him again this season,” a fourth fan added.

Game-winner to bench-warmer?

Even though the season is at it’s end, there are still five league games left to play.

For Wolves, this includes hosting already-relegated Leicester City before travelling to the Etihad to take on last season’s champions, Manchester City.

The Old Gold’s final three league games will see them host Brighton and travel to Crystal Palace before returning to Molineux for a final day showdown against Brentford.

Cunha may not be a Wolves player much beyond May 25th’s game against Thomas Frank’s Bees, so there is an argument to suggest he shouldn’t feature again — very Football Manager-esque.

It isn’t like the team hasn’t played well without him either.

During Cunha’s most recent ban, which saw him suspended following a violent clash with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, Wolves, and the in-form Jorgen Strand Larsen, went unbeaten and took 10 points from a possible 12.

That remarkable run has put Wolves in elite European company. Pereira’s men are now Europe’s second-most in-form team, bettered only by Luis Enrique’s PSG.

Whether or not Pereira sticks with Cunha remains to be seen, but there is certainly an argument to suggest dropping the Brazilian may be in everybody’s best interests.
