Wolves dream summer window with five exits, new striker and Joao Gomes to stay

How Wolves’ dream summer transfer window could line up, with multiple exits, a new attack and star duo to stay.

Wolves transfer rumours are now in full swing now that the 2023/24 campaign has come to an end.

Gary O’Neil managed to oversee a fairly successful year despite the challenges he faced under his tenure. Now, the club has the chance to rectify many of its issues by making improvements to Wolves’ first team

Unfortunately, the club could lose some of its stars due to Wolves’ frustrating transfer policy which could result in a ‘sell to buy’ situation

However, this article examines what a dream summer window could look like for Wolves ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Che Adams transfers to Wolves

A new striker is a must this summer. Wolves’ issues up top have been a long-standing problem for many seasons now.

Since Raul Jimenez’s horrific injury, the Old Gold side has not had a striker who has been fully fit for the majority of the season. This has resulted in many youngsters being thrown into the deep end due to the lack of depth such as Nathan Fraser and Fabio Silva

Now that the summer window is open again, this gives the club another chance to finally put this to an end.

One player who has attracted a lot of interest from Wolves is Che Adams. The Southampton striker is set to hit the peak of his career, with his contract coming to an end in the coming weeks.

Wolves have been consistently linked to Adams and the attacker would add an extra threat to the squad.

However, things took a turn this week when it was reported that Adams is in talks to sign a new contract at Southampton.

Wolves sign Jonathan Rowe

Another continuing trend up top, Wolves simply do not have the depth to remain competitive for a full season.

On the wings, presents another challenge for O’Neil. The manager only had three first-team players who are comfortable playing in this position throughout the 2023/24 season: Pablo Sarabia, Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-Chan.

When the latter two got injured it majorly contributed to Wolves’ downfall in 2024, with the attack having little effectiveness.

In order to rectify this issue, the club should sign Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe. The 21-year-old was fundamental to the Canaries’ Championship campaign where he picked up 12 goals in 32 games.

Wolves have been linked to Rowe through 2024 with the star having plenty of potential.

Alternatively, O’Neil should look to bring in Reiss Nelson from Arsenal who is believed to be available this summer.

Transfer exits

On top of potential signings, departures are also needed. Over the years, Wolves have failed to get rid of many players who clearly have no future in the first team.

Many of these spent the 2023/24 campaign out on loan but a permanent transfer is needed to help free up wages as well as bring in some money.

Wolves need to depart with Fabio Silva, Goncalo Guedes, Ki-Jana Hoever, Daniel Podence and Sasa Kalajdzic

Thankfully, there is reported interest for many of these players. Fabio Silva was recently linked to AC Milan and Sevilla

A new partner for Craig Dawson

The attack isn’t the only major issue at Wolves at the moment. In defence, O’Neil’s side has consistently struggled to keep the opposition at bay.

Wolves’ last clean sheet in the Premier League came in the 1-0 victory against relegated Sheffield United in February. This means the club conceded 12 straight top-division games.

This must be sorted this summer. Craig Dawson was easily the club’s best-performing last season, therefore, a new partner for him would be ideal.

Wolves may be tempted to reignite their interest in Nico Elvedi who they were linked with throughout the last summer window.

Alternatively, Yerson Mosquera is set to return from a highly successful loan spell at Villarreal. The Colombian should be given an opportunity to see if he can replicate this form.

Wolves keep hold of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Joao Gomes

One big concern from the Molineux faithful is which big star will leave the club this summer.

It almost feels inevitable that Wolves lose one of their main players in the transfer window to help fund signings. However, the Old Gold must hold onto Rayan Ait-Nouri and Joao Gomes.

The duo are easily Wolves’ two most promising players. Despite the dramatic dip in form in 2024, these two stood out and were mainly consistent throughout the remaining games.

With the duo still being young, Wolves must look to build a team around them to eventually push the club back in Europe.

While this may be difficult, it is possible if the club show enough ambition to cause them to stay.
