Projecting Wolves’ dream summer transfer window as Matheus Cunha record smashed and free agent signs

Wolves’ summer has been dominated by exits so far, but with several signings in the pipeline, here’s what a dream transfer window could look like at Molineux.

The start of this summer has been a slow burner for Wolves, who have only welcomed Fer Lopez as a new addition to Vitor Pereira’s squad.

With their Premier League rivals strengthening significantly, supporters will be worried that the Old Gold could get left behind.

Though with Wolves close to signing two more players, there promises to be some positive movement in the market as Pereira’s plans begin to take shape.

So, with all that said, here’s how a dream summer transfer window could look at Wolves.

Wolves sign Kyle Walker-Peters to replace Nelson Semedo

Captain Nelson Semedo saw his contract expire on June 30 after months of speculation surrounding his future.

The Portuguese right-back is now free to find another club, and Wolves are already planning for life after him.

Wolves have been linked to Kyle Walker-Peters, who recently left Southampton at the end of his contract. The 28-year-old would be an excellent option to play as a starting wing-back on either flank next season and Pereira should do everything to snap him up on a free transfer.

Vitor Pereira signs an all-action midfielder to compete

As Tommy Doyle joined Birmingham City on loan and Boubacar Traore isn’t a part of the club’s long-term plans, Wolves are looking for another deep-lying midfielder to compete with Joao Gomes, Andre and Marshall Munetsi.

Wolves have shown an interest in Andy Diouf, who is currently playing his football with RC Lens in Ligue 1, along with many other talents.

Diouf is a strong, combative and versatile midfielder who would offer quality competition in the middle of the park and, for a price of £15 million, would be a solid addition.

Wolves break their transfer record to sign Jhon Arias

Wolves current transfer record is the £44 million paid to Atletico Madrid for Matheus Cunha in January 2023.

That move ended up being genius as Cunha sealed a £62.5 million transfer to Manchester United this summer after becoming one of the club’s best ever talents.

If the Wanderers have ambitions of climbing up the table, they must reinvest most of that money into a replacement, perhaps going all out to sign Jhon Arias.

Wolves have held talks with Arias following his stunning Club World Cup campaign with Fluminense and would reportedly cost around £44 million to sign him. As he’s produced 13 assists in all competitions this year and shown his ability to operate in multiple roles, surely the club must smash their transfer record to land him.

After all, it is Arias’s dream to play in Europe.

A replacement for Rayan Ait-Nouri is signed

Although finding an heir to Cunha’s throne is crucial, signing a replacement for Rayan Ait-Nouri is arguably more important after he joined Manchester City.

The Algerian produced 12 goal involvements from wing-back in all competitions last term, earning him a move to the Etihad Stadium.

As it stands, Hugo Bueno will return to Wolves and will play a prominent role next term, but they also need someone to compete with the Spaniard.

Wolves have placed Gerard Martin on their radar this summer, and the 23-year-old would offer exceptional creativity in wide areas, something they need in the absence of Ait-Nouri.

How Wolves starting lineup could look with new signings

Around five or six first team signings would significantly improve their current squad, hopefully reinvesting the money received from Cunha and Ait-Nouri.

So, with the above signings made, Walker-Peters could come into the team at right-back and Arias would slot in perfectly in the right channel.

That team along with solid depth on the bench could propel Wolves closer to mid table next season after years battling against relegation.
