Wolves’ dream August scenario includes signing £15m striker and Nelson Semedo’s heir

Although things at Wolves are a bit gloomy at present, there is a world where fans end the month of August happy, but some things need to be done.

As football fans, we sometimes naturally drift into the realm of dreams and fantasies when thinking about our favourite team.

Now that pre-season is over, there are two things to think about as the summer draws to a close. The window needs to be maximised, and the first three games of the season need to be, well, not disastrous.

In a fun—or torturous—exercise, depending on your predisposition, we’ll explore the best-case scenario for Wolves’ end of August.

Wolves sign Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana for £15m

The first bit of business Wolves get finalised is a deal for Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana.

Wolves have been interested in both Fofana and Axel Disasi, though paying a Chelsea premium for both is out of the question, even in this fantasy exercise.

The imminent Fabio Silva sale should comfortably cover the cost, and ensure Jorgen Strand Larsen has backup.

Fofana has struggled to establish himself at Stamford Bridge, but at just 22, there’s plenty of time for him to develop. Centre-forwards can take that bit longer. As a backup, there wouldn’t be intense pressure on him, but an environment like Wolves could suit a player looking to rediscover form.

Nelson Semedo is finally replaced with a solid and creative wing-back

This one should already be done, but Wolves haven’t been able to avoid saga after saga in their quest to replace Nelson Semedo.

But their next target doesn’t mess the club about. Juventus right-back Nicolo Savona is surplus to requirements and happily makes the move to Molineux for £17 million.

The versatile Italian provides cover at centre-back as well, freeing up cash to pursue another central midfielder and maybe even another attacker.

Wolves make a total of eight transfers over the course of the window, and squad concerns die down.

Wolves actually have a good start to the Premier League season

If you haven’t heard, Wolves’ August record since returning to the Premier League boasts just one win in 17 games. It’s almost a tradition to start towards the bottom of the table and claw their way up.

This season, however, the team are hungry for points after a winless pre-season, and they start the season on the front foot.

The first fixture against Man City is a difficult proposition. Erling Haaland grabs an opening day goal for the fourth successive season, but a Premier League debut goal from Jhon Arias leaves it all square at full time.

The vibes around Molineux have lifted following a gutsy performance, spurring Vitor Pereira’s side to take six from six at Bournemouth and at home to Everton. Clearly pre-season results mean nothing. The lads are on the charge.

Or something like that.
