Wolves could finally sign ‘exceptional’ Jose Sa upgrade as £17m Aaron Ramsdale alternative eyed

Gary O’Neil’s work in the summer transfer window is far from over as Wolves eye further signings before deadline day.

After bidding farewell to Pedro Neto this week, Gary O’Neil confirmed that Wolves will re-enter the transfer market to replenish the squad.

The winger was sold to Chelsea for £54m, joining Max Kilman as the second first-teamer to leave the club this summer.

As well as replacing those that have left, O’Neil could now be close to solving one issue that could help his side in the near future.

Wolves are looking at Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas

Another first-team regular whose name has been subject of transfer speculation is Jose Sa, who is under contract at Molineux until 2027.

The 31-year-old received interest from Saudi Arabia last year, with questions over his future coming to light once more with reports claiming Sa is ready to leave Wolves

As a result, it would be smart for Wolves to begin the hunt to acquire a new goalkeeper who could one day act as Sa’s successor in the Midlands.

Interestingly, it has been reported this week that Wolves are looking at Lazio shot-stopper Christos Mandas, who is also wanted by Southampton, as per Corriere Dello Sport.

The report claims that an offer of €20m (£17m) would be enough to lure the 22-year-old to the Premier League.

Mandas could be the ideal alternative to other goalkeepers linked to Wolves

This summer, Wolves were also linked to Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, who has fallen out of favour in North London.

Despite the Old Gold admiring the Englishman, O’Neil’s chances of signing Ramsdale are slim, as Arsenal are said to value their number two at a whopping £50m.

For this reason, Mandas could be a smart alternative, with the Greek being a highly-rated ‘keeper for his sporadic role at Lazio last season.

Scouting experts Youth Scout1ng on X described the Serie A ace as being “exceptional”, as he made his mark in the Italian top flight last term where he made nine appearances.

In that time, the youngster asserted himself as being a talent worthy of being more than just second-choice, as he maintained an average of conceding just 0.7 goals per game, via Sofascore

Signing a successor to Sa prior to the Portugal international’s actual exit would be a smart move from Wolves, with Mandas showing all the signs that he could be a top talent.
