Time is proving that Wolves made the right decision to hire Vitor Pereira in December.
Gary O’Neil was dismissed after Wolves’ defeat to Ipswich Town on matchday 16, departing when the Old Gold sat five points from safety.
There was little hope at that moment, as Wolves had conceded 40 goals in only 16 games, with all eyes on who the club would hire as the Englishman’s successor.
Pereira arrived and quickly showed that he was the perfect recruit to turn the season around, but he wasn’t Wolves’ primary candidate.

Graham Potter struggling to make an impact at West Ham
Wolves had five managers on their radar to replace O’Neil, and interestingly, Pereira wasn’t one of them.
One coach who was eyed by the club’s hierarchy to take the reins was Graham Potter.
Potter rejected Wolves and joined West Ham, a decision that at the time was difficult to digest but now has proven to be a bullet dodged.

West Ham have won only three games in the Premier League since Potter took charge, and are currently without a win in their previous six matches.
On the contrary, Wolves made Premier League history by securing their fourth win in a row on matchday 32, emphasising that the board made the correct decision to hire Pereira.
That being said, it wasn’t a masterclass from Wolves as such, as Potter rejected the job at Molineux for a reason that fans can now strangely thank Fosun for.
Wolves have Fosun to thank for Potter snub
As Potter’s struggles in the capital go on, Wolves will feel more and more grateful for the hiring of Pereira and how seamlessly the manager has adapted to the English game.
Though Fosun would like to take credit for hiring Pereira, it happened as a result of not landing other candidates, as Potter rejected Wolves because of concerns over how the owners run the club.
Fosun’s negligence when it comes to supporting Wolves managers prompted Potter to snub the West Midlands side, which has now turned into a positive.
To really turn a negative into a positive, the owners must support Pereira in the summer transfer window, as the Portuguese coach has shown that he can restore the good times at Molineux.
