Wolves continued their winless streak in the Premier League with defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
Vitor Pereira named a strong Wolves starting lineup against Chelsea, including Matheus Cunha, who returned from a recent injury setback.
Coming away from London with anything was always going to be tough. Despite Matt Doherty cancelling out Tosin Adarabioyo’s opener, the Blues went on to win 3-1 following second-half goals from Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke.
We’ve taken a look back and picked out three winners and three losers following Wolves’ disappointing 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.

The Winners
Emmanuel Agbadou
Although Chelsea away is a very tough fixture to be making just your second-ever Premier League appearance in, new signing Emmanuel Agbadou did well.
The 27-year-old’s latest showing was definitely a step up from his debut against Newcastle United. The centre-back used his body well, and his forward passing was much improved.
Vitor Pereira didn’t get the result he would’ve wanted, but Agbadou’s performance was a positive.
Joao Gomes
Joao Gomes was arguably Wolves’ best player against Chelsea.
The 23-year-old fought hard all evening. Gomes caused Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall problems all evening and even nutmegged the Chelsea midfielder at one point during the first half.

Gomes’ performance, although unmatched by his teammates, showed why he should be one of the first names on Pereira’s teamsheet.
Rodrigo Gomes
Rodrigo Gomes started on the bench but came on for Rayan Ait-Nouri with 15 minutes to play.
Although the tie was already gone by the time he came on, the young Portuguese full-back made a hugely positive impact.
Making more than one driving run forward and giving Chelsea’s defence something to think about, fans would’ve wondered what could have been had the 21-year-old been introduced sooner.
The Losers
Rayan Ait-Nouri
Ait-Nouri’s performance seems to have gone under the radar. The Algerian had one of his worst games of the season.
Madueke gave the defender so many problems early on that Pereira had to move him flanks.
Rayan Ait-Nouri vs. Chelsea | Statistic |
Minutes played | 74′ |
Ground duels (won) | 4 (2) |
Aerial duels | 0 |
Possession lost | 4 |
Fouls | 1 |
Clearances | 2 |
Blocks | 0 |
Interceptions | 1 |
Dribbled past | 1 |
Nelson Semedo did a much better job operating at left-wing-back, proving Rodrigo Gomes should have come on for Ait-Nouri much sooner than he did.
Jose Sa
Jose Sa had another poor game.
Admittedly, not all of Wolves’ problems are entirely the goalkeeper’s fault but calamitous errors like the one he made against Chelsea certainly won’t help his side.
At 0-0, the Portuguese goalkeeper almost made a mistake which would’ve seen Chelsea take the lead.
Doherty was under pressure from some onrushing Chelsea attackers. The defender headed a looping ball back to his keeper. Sa clearly hadn’t communicated his intentions to come out and claim the ball though.
Doherty’s header nearly allowed Chelsea’s forward a tap-in into an empty net. The defender was able to recover just in time — saving his keeper’s blushes.
Pablo Sarabia
Coming in for Goncalo Guedes, Pablo Sarabia was awarded his first start under Pereira.
The Spaniard was completely ineffective though. He failed to make any sort of impact on the match and was eventually subbed off after 74 minutes — 73 minutes too late.
