Wolves’ best XI with summer transfer window now closed, featuring Tolu Arokodare

It is safe to say that many Wolves fans are not happy with the way the summer transfer window went.

Wolves signed six players, and also turned Jorgen Strand Larsen’s loan move to the club permanent.

Strand Larsen came close to leaving Wolves with Newcastle attempting to sign him at the end of the window.

But on deadline day Wolves told Strand Larsen he was going nowhere, a decision he accepted, and Newcastle then backed away.

Keeping Strand Larsen could be huge for Wolves, but undoubtedly this is going to be a very tough season and Vitor Pereira will have his work cut out to build on the work he did last term.

Pereira wants to finish in mid-table, but that will be a tall order given Wolves’ transfer business.

After a frantic summer, here is what may be Wolves’ best XI moving forward.

There is no getting away from it – Wolves’ squad is now in worse shape than it was last season.

Wolves have lost some great players who had the capacity to change games, and players who had an abundance of Premier League experience.

The club have brought in six new players, and there is no telling how quickly they will adapt – so far, none of them have impressed all that much.

Moving forward, Jose Sa will start in goal for Wolves, being the undisputed number one at Molineux.

Wolves’ best backline could be Toti Gomes on the left, new signing Ladislav Krejci in the middle and Emmanuel Agbadou on the right.

Toti and Agbadou have started poorly, but were great last season and will hopefully turn things around. Krejci hasn’t played yet, but the money Wolves will spend on him points to him starting regularly.

It is perhaps harsh to omit Matt Doherty, who Pereira adores, but there is a chance he’ll lose his starting berth this season.

The wing-backs could be Hugo Bueno and Jackson Tchatchoua. David Moller Wolfe did get an assist against Everton, but Bueno is currently ahead of him in the pecking order.

In midfield, Andre and Joao Gomes pick themselves.

Jhon Arias hasn’t really got going yet but the hope is that he’ll make a somewhat similar impact to his predecessor Matheus Cunha.

And up top, it is not out of the question that new signing Tolu Arokodare could actually partner Jorgen Strand Larsen.

There would be a lot of physicality there, and two good targets for the wing-backs to hit.

Wolves set for season of struggle

It would be a miracle if Wolves weren’t involved in a relegation battle this season.

Pereira is a great manager, but he has been sold short by his superiors. The failure to sign a new midfielder could prove to be a major oversight.

Wolves have already lost three Premier League games, setting the tone for the rest of the campaign.

The club did land some players with potential to come good, but the clear lack of proven Premier League players – after losing so many – could be so costly.
