Wolves have had problems scoring, and that has stemmed from a lack of chance creation at the club this season, but one man who could have been a solution was allowed to leave on loan by Vitor Pereira.
This player is Tommy Doyle, who is spending the season at Birmingham City, and if the Blues get promoted, he will become a permanent signing.
Doyle has been impressing in the Championship, and those chances of promotion do look possible.
Birmingham are currently in eighth place on 28 points, just eight points behind second, and with plenty of football to be played, there is no saying they cannot close that gap to come up automatically.
Edwards will not be happy that Wolves do not have a recall option, as Doyle would have been an excellent addition to his side.
And while Birmingham fell to defeat against Southampton on Saturday, the midfielder did something that shows how crucial he could have been.
Tommy Doyle creates five chances for Birmingham City in one game

Birmingham City were not at their best against Southampton on Saturday, as they lost 3-1 to a rejuvenated Saints side.
However, while he did end up on the losing side, Wolves loanee Tommy Doyle did complete a feat that would be welcomed currently at Molineux.
Against Southampton, Doyle created the most chances in the game (5), as per FotMob.
Additionally, according to Birmingham Mail, who rated the midfielder as one of the Blues’ best players on the day, they said, “Many of the Blues’ best bits arrived via Doyle’s delivery, either from set pieces or right-wing crosses. The midfielder ran himself into the ground.”
His performance offered the Championship club a bright spark, and that is something missing at the Wanderers in the middle of the pitch.
And those five chances created in just one match do put most of the players at the club to shame.

How Wolves’ current options stack up in chances created

The issue at Wolves is truly laid bare when you compare the number of chances created by the midfield players at the club this season.
In just that one game, Doyle managed to create the same or more than the rest of Rob Edwards’ options have across the whole season.
| Player | Minutes played in Premier League | Chances created | Chances created per 90 |
| Joao Gomes | 1,101 | 5 | 0.41 |
| Ladislav Krejci | 795 | 5 | 0.56 |
| Andre | 977 | 4 | 0.37 |
| Jean-Ricner Bellegarde | 637 | 4 | 0.57 |
| Marshall Munetsi | 873 | 3 | 0.31 |
| Fer Lopez | 116 | 3 | 2.33 |
While it is a small sample size for Fer Lopez, it makes it even more worrying that Wolves are willing to let the Spaniard leave.
In just his limited minutes, he has shown himself to be a creative spark, and while the Old Gold cannot turn to Tommy Doyle, they could turn to Lopez.
